I want to put an adjustable rear site on my Norinco 1911A1 .45 but it will require a higher front site. It doesn't look like the front site on my slide is removable. Is there a way to replace the front site? Or am I gonna have to look for a new slide?

Look inside where the bushing goes, you will see where the sight is staked in.

Seems like more of a gunsmith job to stake a new one in, though I'll bet some here could tell you how to DIY.

"...slide cut for dovetail sights..." There's usually not enough steel where the front sight goes for a dovetail. The rear sight you can put on yourself, but save yourself some grief and have a smithy put on at least the front. Staking the front isn't as easy as it looks.

Send the slide out to a smith. It's not a weapon , so no paperwork required. It doesn't weigh much , or require an oversize box, so it would be cheap to ship.If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, it might be a reasonble idea.

I like Armco, but I don't like the basic sights he has for them. The Novaks really make the gun look good. He may have other sights for sale.

Ljungman:

I just recieved my wife's 9mm 1911 slide back from Gunnar at www.armco-guns.com

What a fabulous job he did re-staking the front sight after it was shooting loose. He re-cut the tenon's cavity and that gave the front sight tenon more area to be staked and provide resistance. Then he staked it down once again.

Cost me all of $ 37.00 including return shipping. Oh yeah, I paid $ 6.00 to ship it from Collingwood to Prince George, BC. Turnaround time... 3 weeks included, door to door.

You will not regret having him work on your M1911.

I'm going to send 2 more slides and Novak Carry 3 dot sight sets for him to install. I'm very pleased with his work.

Cheers,
Barney
