Norc 1911A1C: HELP !!

I'm one of the fortunate few to have access to a shop, and to know how to use it
How much does an Armco Norc go for?

Well, Gunnar is a top IPSC custom Pistolsmith, he can turn your Norc into a racegun.....

He is also a Norinco dealer and simply works-over the guns before he sells them.....for not much money....

I am very happy with his work..... :D

Well, a person CAN get value for money invested....

Here is my Norkenstein, as originally put together for me by Gunnar at Armco......

It's a Norinco NP-29 with all parts needed to shoot .38 Special Wadcutter- 9mm- .38 Super and .45 ACP.....

I also have a Kart .22 LR conversion top-end and also a compensated .45 ACP top-end not shown here....

I have to add that the horrible Norc grip plates, have long since been replaced by Pachmayr grips....

Here it is set-up for .38 Special Wadcutter....

So it's certainly not a race gun. It certainly gives me a lot of shooting pleasure.... :)

I like it a lot.... 8)

some of the mods....

The slide on the right is the NP-29 slide, and fitted to it are the twin bull-barrel 9mm and .38 Super units. No bushing is used and the units share a reverse plug recoil system....the magazine is a .38 Super which I use for both 9mm and .38 Super (I have a dozen blued .38 Super mags that all work just fine with both calibers....

The slide on the left is a Norc .45 ACP slide. This slide as well as the recoil spring guide, bushing and plug are shared...The .38 Special barrel, recoil spring, and fitted (tweaked to work with the .38 Special rim) extractor.
And the .45 ACP barrel, recoil spring, and extractor...

The slide stop is common to ALL the top-ends and is the stock NP-29.

The trigger is an adjustable unit supplied and installed by Gunnar....of course, at the same time he did a fine trigger job....

I have added since these pics were made (by Gunnar) a large button mag release, Pachmayr grips, and I've done a bit of file work on the thumb safety....

The sights on these two slides are still the stock 3-dot Norinco units. While these are useable, they are going to be replaced soon by a pair of adjustable sights to match the sights already installed on my other top-ends....

As soon as I get a digital camera I'll post pics of the different combos....

hope this helps...

I don't have one, but from what I've read here and seen personally, you should plan on some extractor/ejector tuning.

A lot of people have written about having brass ejected back at thier face or malfunctions along this line.

This is one of Gunnar's tune ups, but if you choose not to go with him, extractors and ejectors are pretty low cost upgrades, if you need to go beyond tuning the existing parts.

New sights and a trigger job. Leave the barrel alone, there is nothing wrong with Nork barrels. Then go shoot it. I had a bunch of work done on mine - all of the above actually and other that sights and trigger job ther rest was just cosmetics and a bonus for Gunner. hee hee For action games though like IPSC and IDPA I would stick with the A1 version if only for the longer sight radius. You might also want to look at the NP 29 in 9MM. I love my two 1911's in 9MM. Cheap to shoot and extremely accurate. As much as I try my NOrinco 9mm will shoot with my STI Trojan any day of the week and the sights that come with the gun are better than the A!/Commander versions but les than a good set of Heinies. I don't understand for the life of me why the Chinese don't copy a decent set of sights but that is a matter for them.

Oh if you are going to throw those cheap NOrinco mags away how about sending them this way. Cheap as the are mine have never let me down. They are cheap though so PM me and I'll send you my address.

Stay Safe

Well I got the gun :D
It has a Chip McCormick trigger assembly, custom snakewood and ebony grips, a stainless checkered MSH, will have a stainless beaver tail soon, will have a 2 piece guide rod soon, Wolff springs through-out. I simply have one major complaint: that barrel is loose as hell :(
It moves very loosely back and forth and side to side when the slide is back  .
Is this normal???
I'm not the fist owner so there is no warranty and I haven't shoot her yet and won't for at least another two weeks.
Please help.
