Norc ar buffer tube

How do I tell the difference between a mil spec or a commercial tube? Do I just assume it's commercial?

The commercial tubes aren't all slanted in the back. I bought one from the EE that was supposed to be mil-spec and couldn't figure out why my Magpul CTR stock wouldn't fit. Then I verified with a set of calipers why. I think the Norinco's are commercial buffer tubes. The dimensions are the best way to verify.

I have another dumb question. What are the advantages / disadvantages between Mil-spec / commercial If any?

I don't think most people will notice the difference, but I have read that the milspec tubes are typically made out of better materials which I assume varies between manufacturers. But also in the way the threads are manufactured rolled vs. cut. Apparently the rolled threads on the milspec tubes are stronger. I'm sure somebody here can better add to this or correct me.
