Greetings all:

Trying to re-fit a Norc CQ-A with replacement black furniture gotten from a fellow CGNer.

Collapsible stock...no problem.

Pistol Grip...no problem.

Handguards...here's where my heartaches begin!

I'm having the devil of a time trying to fit the lower and upper handguards. Yes, I have the handguard tool.

I can't understand what the problem is this time, since I removed them once, rattle canned them, replaced them. Since I wasn't satisified with the results, I then removed them and now am attempting to replace them with new ones.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

What make are the new ones? I have heard of people having to do some fitting to get the Magpul ones on a Norc. I went with B5 slim hand guards and they went on no issues at all.

The Norc handguard length is *slightly* out of spec with the standard AR15 carbine length.

For most people it does require a little bit of dremel work to get new handguards to fit.

Thanks to both of you. But...

The CGNer from whom I got these, removed them from his own CQ-A.

If the furniture is out of spec, why does the stock and grip fit OK.

Perhaps Dremel is in my future?

Give 'er. I managed to get Magpul handguards onto my 10.5in Norc upper when I still had it. It wasn't easy, but I got it on without dremeling.

In my experience, every CQ is slightly out of spec in its very own special way! So yep, dremel time :)

Agreed...had to dremel my Magpul to fit as well....go slow OP and keep trying until it fits. I had t take about 1/8" off the front lip to get it to fit into the front handguard cap.

The Magpul MOE handguards may need some fitting (assuming that is what you bought). They did on my CQ-A. See some of the details in this thread:

The original CQ-A handguards were an easy fit, but the MOE's were a bugger unless I got out my Dremel. It seems that the stock and grip on the CQ-A are pretty spec, but the handguards are a bit off.

Hope this helps!

Scott: I'm talking about the furniture set that I got from you, not MOE.

My apologies for the misunderstanding... So the "new ones" you are referring to above are the ones from my CQ-A. They went on/off my CQ-A without a hitch. Can you see any differences in dimensions between your old ones and my new ones?

I had to fit the MOE's for my CQ-A. I wonder if fitting will be required for the new CQ-A handguards as well. It appears that all CQ-A's are out of spec by the same amount. :(

I'd go with the dremel. The dremel should always be at hand if you are replacing Norinco handguards on your own, since your hand can get trapped (ask me how I know), and emergency will just love you.

Semper Dremelatus!

It has nothing to do with the length of the handguards, it is the handguard retaining ring at the front, the Chinese one is smaller in diameter than our north american ones. Take off the front sight housing, replace the retainer with an american one, replace front sight housing and put on the handguards. Does no one know how to use a caliper around this place? LOL

100% right.
Chinese front end cap is smaller in diameter.i used a shim to install Ncstar Vism handguard.

Did you figure it out?
Is the spring behind the delta ring sticking out? I had that happen and it wasn't letting the delta ring back all the way. Drove me nuts till I figured it out.
Maybe post pic of what's happening

I have a Troy Industries Carbine Drop In Battle Rail ( 7" ) in black available for sale. It is modded to perfectly fit the NORC forehand cap. It is rock solid and there is no play at all. Locks in place with jam nuts on the barrel nut.

PM me.
