Just got my Norc CQA a few days ago and i have finally stripped it to removed the grease and do a general inspection before I shoot it. I basically did a CF detailed strip including removing the handguards. The were a real pain to remove and almost impossible to replace.

I haven't had a lot of time behind C8's, but the C7A2 handguards were a lot simpler to remove and replace. Is it because they were well used rifles or are the C8/M4 shorter hand guards usually a real pain in the a$$?

In addition, I will NEVER buy or use the "hand guard removal tool" that I've seen on the market. I would rather buy a quad rail then to use that tool.

Thanks for the help!

There is nothing mil spec about the Norinco. If you look back to older threads, you will find lots of issues with accessories not fitting properly on them..( especially handgaurds)

Search on youtube " AR15 handguard removal tool ", you will find DIY tool for this purpose.

For reassembly you definitely need a tool even if you trim or sand your handguard.
Norinco handguard are extremely tight.

I've used the handle of a large pair of channel pliers as well as Chinatire's rubber coated tool hanging bracket with ease. Heck, you can even buy one, use it and return when done ;)

+1 on the tool bracket.

When I was first issued my C-8A2 it had 10 rounds through her and it took 2 of us to get the handguards on and off with a lot of sweating and cursing. I don't think it's a problem with just Norincos. My carbine is about as mil spec as they come.

Using one of those brackets I can put the handguards on and off myself with no effort.

I did so after seeing this video:

I was expecting the handguard to come off like a C7's as well - guess after you've had a private take them off and put them on a few hundred times, they come on and off pretty easily.
