Hi, I was working the action a hundred times or so to smooth out the cycle on my JW-15.
Overall I'm pleased with the gun, expecially the trigger. It's alot better than the lawyerly triggers I'm used to.
Anyway. I had an epiphany of a minor sort and realized that the grittiness of the action wasn't getting any better, but it was only on the forward-back motion of the bolt, not camming or locking of the lugs into place. Those motions were smooth and firm.
So, pulling the bolt out and looking at it again, and the sear release too, I saw that the sear realease machining was well done, that tab in the reciever above the trigger that releases the cocked bolt, but the raceway in the bolt was very roughly done.
I cleaned it up with a small peice of stone on a dremel bit by hand, and the action smoothed up IMMEDIATELY and AMAZINGLY WELL.
It's not perfect yet, and it wont be until I can get the bolt disassembled and polish it up well, but in the meantime it made a world of difference just smoothing it up with the sear piece still in the bolt assembly. Problem is, I can't figure out how to dissassemble the bolt. If anyone knows how, please share ASAP.
I'm going to be carefull not to remove too much metal or damage the flats or the sear.
