On a Norinco M14 I've read that you cannot put the SEI GLFS on it due to the imperial-metric threading issues.
But it's also been posted that you can "chase" the metric threads with an imperial castle nut and then mount the SEI Vortex.
Is it possible to chase the threads and then use the SEI GLFS and Vortex, or as an alternate, can you use one of the Marstar metric GLFS and then chase the threads to also mount the SEI Vortex?

Thanks in advance.

I'd use a metric GLFS just to make it easy.

As for the Vortex, why would you mount a Vortex with a castle nut if you replaced the sight base? If you still want to mount a Vortex this way than you could probably just re-use the chinese castle nut to install it. Most people seem to be chopping the barrel and rethreading when they go this route, why else would you want to shorten your sight picture?

Sorry, I should have been more specific, it's a DC Vortex that I plan to mount, so it doesn't use a castle nut. Other threads have said that although it has imperial threading, the Norc metric threads are close enough that if you chase them first with an imperial castle nut, that will work to later thread the Vortex on.
I plan on keeping the barrel at 22" as well.

My long term plans are to change out a lot more on it (including the barrel), but for the interim I want to set it up as close to my endstate but using the Norc parts, and where possible, parts that will be transferable to the final product.

Ah, ok. I didn't realize that the direct connect Vortex had the same threads as the GI barrels. So someone could install a .308 Phantom without issues on a GI barrel? I have heard that about the castle nut but I believe it was in reference to guys installing GI flash hiders on Norc barrels or vice versa.
