So, I just disassembled my bolt for the first time since I bought the rifle 3 years ago, am taking a look at my Norc M14s firing pin. The part that strikes the primer appears to have a large chip out of it, and some smaller cracks around the edges of the 'pin' portion (that strikes the primer).

Is this okay to continue to use, or should I order in a replacement firing pin?

I would discontinue use. What if the tip expands and fails to retreat into the bolt. Next cartridge will get a protruding firing pin. Can't be good in any scenario.

Yeah, I know. I guess I'm just dissappointed that I wont be able to try out my gun after installing the new parts. I AM glad i took the bolt down and found this.

So, logical next question, are there any Canadian Suppliers for M14 fireing pins, or do I just put a 2nd order in with 762mm?

Hey, I have a slightly used norinco firing pin ( 60 rounds ).

You can have it !

Stainage: Thanks for stepping up and throwing down, not like lots of others out there who can only step down and throw up! :D

Cheers all!

Stainage - I owe you one.

On the same note, any idea how this could happen to the firing pin? I mean, I've shot maybe 1000-2000 rounds in the last 3 years, cleaned it religiously, etc etc. I was just surprised to find this damage to be honest.

since you said you haven't had it apart for 3 years, i'd suspect FACTORY DEFECT- i don't know if the norc firing pins are cast( probably) but it would be easy to get a defective one- oh well, easily remedied

By any chance do you ever dry fire without a snap cap in place?

Well the firing pin is on its way. Thank you everyone for the support. Pics of installation and subsequent test fire to follow!
