norc M14 gas lock ring threads

what is the thread pitch/tap size for the gas lock ring on the Chinese M14? I dont have a set of metric thread pitch gauges,but it looks like 26tpi on my standard gauge??? and the maj dia. mics .663" or 16.84mm. I am looking to make my own gas lock ring front sight,and need to buy a tap or get one made

Making your own gas ring front sight is a NON-Trivial project ... why bother when the Marstar ones are available at a reasonable prive.

PS: I hate GRFS, and am building a different clamp on front sight block that takes the original MJ-14 ft sight ... it will look something like the Ruger AC-556.

Looking forward to seeing those...I don't mind the GLFS picture, but there is a bit of slop side to side when you put the thing together so getting it dead plumb every time is a bit of a pain...

Also a pain is the fact that I STILL can't find mine, even though I know it's somewhere in the house, and I've been looking for a week!

Marstar appears to be sold out of the steel GLFS...

Were these just a one-time production run?

Is there another source for metric GLFS?

Smith Enterprises hasn't got theirs out yet.

male dovetail on top,like the flash hider has? or female dovetail to install like a globe front sight? I'm also thinkin' maybe just tapped on top and use it to anchor the front end of a rail.

Couldn't tell you about the GI barrel but I'd also be interested in a nork one, standard or dovetail like the flash hider.

Let us know what you come up with, there's going to be a big market for M14 parts in this country for a while I think!

Can you buy a dovetail base piece and then just spot weld it onto the gas lock?
