Norc M14 recoil pad

I was hoping to stop on my way home from work to pick up a grind to fit recoil pad. I don't have the norc with me, and I was hoping that someone could give the the dimensions of the butt plate or let me know if you have used these recoil pads and which one fit for you, I was looking at the remington ones, and they come in small med and large.

Stop right there, the recoil pads that are sold for Norc M305 are not compatible. The screws and bolts on your Norc are too short to fit and it ends up in the garbage can unless you want to spend hours at Home Depot to find longer ones in the right dimensions. Even at that, they dont fit too good. I really dont understand why someone cant make one to fit properly and include the proper bolt sizes to fit. Alot of vendors sell those things and I would challenge them to find a better solution. Not sure about the remington one you are looking for but probably needs a gun smith to install it properly. For a cheap and easy project that fits, I got the Pachmayr slip on pad Large, and cut it to lenght. A Few dabs of Kitchen and Bathroom silicone against the steel plate and it is good to go:)
 
I don't understand why you would want to do this? I have never felt the recoil in these was excessive and in my opinion most of the felt "recoil" is actually from the breech block and op rod's mass moving and I don't know if a recoil pad is going to help.

If you wanted to make the stock longer, I can see that.
 
I can see it. I plan on similar crazyness- USGI stock, chop the back off and fit my LOP with some kind of slip on pad. OP let us know if you figure it out.

seriously though if you want to fit a recoil plate then best thing is to drill and tap the norc butt plate and mount a pad straight to that .. then you have the best of both worlds and its only a norc plate that you're defiling

Just shoot a couple hundred rounds out of it and tell us you have no blue marks. :)
 
or you can do it the other way; put a PAST recoil pad ON YOUR SHOULDER-this not only reduces the recoil, but lengthens the lop as well- but considering i'm probably speaking to the same guys that find the 223 /70 grain hard on the shoulder; there's probably NO HOPE for y'all- the ONLY place the 308 begins to recoil is at bullet weights of 180 or more( check out the us army marksmanship pictures some time- no pads there- if there are, it's to avoid SLIPPAGE, not for recoil; and those folks do this for a living- now if you still want to mount a pad, most have to be ground to fit, but the only real hassle isfitting the bottom bolt to the sling mount- and a cheapo tap and die will take care of that- the top is a nut and bolt affair, so all you have to do is mate the nut and bolt of the proper length and install the bolt with needlenose holding the nut- and make sure the shaft fits
and y'all shouldn't be shooting 180's through your norcs anyway
and those of you that have followed me know that i've done more than a "few hundred rounds)- i've got 4 of the things - and they DO get used- 3 usgi and a early norc
 
the other point to all this is maybe your SHOOTING POSITION- if you're not mounting the rifle properly, you're going to get a blue and bruised shoulder even after a few hundred rounds- the usgis that carried this thing and the garands before it were all SHOWN how to properly mount the rifle- there's probably a youtube for it somewhere

Good solution but dont have the tools and talent required. Can you post a video? I always thought that all they had to do is cut a groove in the thing to fit within the stock dimensions so that the bolts would fit. Anyway I like my slip on for now. TX for the info
 
The slip on pad works great. I put it on as an easy way to increase LOP, the added benifit is it is more comfortable to shoot. I never found the recoil to be excessive, but the steel plate is a little unpleasant if your in a t-shirt. Put on a Pachmyer slip on and your good, sure it's not perfect but for how well it works and how easy it is to put on it's a great solution.
