Norc M14 Trigger Job (GVA)

Just wondering if anyone on here might know of a smith in the greater vancouver area who will do a trigger job on a norc m14??

For longer range shooting a find the pull SUPER long and heavy. I would really love to shorten it up and reduce the weight to around 4.5 / 5lbs
(yes I am aware that 4,5lbs is the minimum safe weight).

I have a really detailed guide online (http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=37213), but I am pretty nervous to start messing with trigger components on my own as I know that it is easy to mess up and create a really dangerous gun in the process. If possible I would love to have a pro look at this.

Alternatively is there such a thing as a drop in national match quality trigger?? Let me know if you have any links for me!

This platform is a battle rifle. Jean Garand , the man hardly envisioned his baby to turn out into an F Class rig. That said; there are way to obtain such an NM type trigger pull. The problem is that it's difficult to achieve if you don't know what you are doing.

It's even harder to obtain when you start out with a Norinco (questionable quality control...I don't have to explain this, do I?) trigger group that can be goofy especially right out of the box. Now if you said you were starting with a USGI trigger group or a Smith or other KNOWN quality trigger group, then in the right gunsmith's hands; a NM trigger pull is achievable. Just don't look at me!! :eek:

I just grease up my hammer sear(s) including every brand (american or chinese) and leave it at that! Nice and smooth! Life is good! If someone you know received a new 10K RPM Super Dremel Tool for Xmas, resist the temptation to ask them to get you a NM trigger job overnight. :cool:

Please, please, if you want great trigger, buy a Savage AccuTrigger precision rig. Shoot and continue to enjoy that M14 platform for what it is. Save the Children (Whales, Afrikan Burping Beetles, or what have you). If it only saves one life ! :nest:

Yes. Run and hide.

Try this: Pull the trigger group out and thumb-#### the hammer and release the hammer until control with your thumb, a couple of hundred times while you are watching TV or something while you have your hands free. This will lighten up the trigger a bit and maybe get it a bit smoother.

yea i can see how a woops could get very expensive with a dremel and a trigger sear.

people need to remember when messing with a trigger on a semi auto a mm or so of grinding/sanding could be the difference between a NM trigger and a dangerous trigger.

this goes for single shots aswell but obviously gets alot more dangerous with a automatic of any kind.
 
I have jigs and file/stone sets specifically for this task.
I've managed to tune up a Great many norinco trigger groups.
For the most part, I'd follow Tactical Teacher's advice, however, there are sound ways to improve the chinese trigger group. Unfortunately there are very very few guys in this country with that ability.
I've got the OP"s back ;)
No dremel tool required ;)

That link has good tips to clean up the pull for sure, but every time I see a "how to" on lightening the weight by exclusively removing material off of the hammer hooks I cringe!
Getting carried away here will create an UNSAFE trigger as u are eliminating one of the key safety functions of the design.

Try your hand at the smoothing techniques they show but leave the "lightening" techniques to someone who knows what's what.

A thousand years ago when my M-14 was still legal, (imported Israeli H&R with welded full-auto button/lever) I found out someone in the ISDF musta known their way around trigger groups in M-14's. My trigger group was so awesome, we used to trade it out with my buddies when it was their turn to shoot on the line with their M-14's. One of my buddies got tired of that, and sent his trigger group off to a guy named Clint Fowler in the US of A. Got back a trigger group that was amazing. http://clintfowlerrifles.com/ Unfortunately he retired and doesn't do it anymore. He must have passed along his magic to somebody though.
