Norc M14

Read the sticky's in the main battle rifles sections, tonnes of info about these there. There's been lots written about this and everyone has a different opinion, but i believe the general concensus is that if all you're interested in is a precision rig, look elsewhere. These are great rifles, super fun to shoot and can be accurate if tuned properly. But if extreme accuracy is your aim, start somewhere else.

<expletive deleted> NO!

Even with a huge amount of tuning, a Norinco M14s (or any M1A that isn't already 'supermatch' or similar from the factory) is only a marginal 'precision rifle' by any reasonable standard.

Repeat after me: I will buy a bolt-action heavy barrel and good optics. I will buy a bolt-action heavy barrel and good optics. I will buy a bolt-action heavy barrel and good optics...

Any box stock Rem M700 Varmint Special (or other versions of the Hvy barreled M700's) will out shoot a moderately tweaked (by you guys or me) Norinco M14. Same goes for any Savage Model 12 or FP10 or BAT or Tikka T3 or Sako Varmint or Winnie M70 Stealth/Hvy Varmint...

Now on the other hand, if the zombie invasion pops up inside 200m or 300m/steps, then the M14 Norc is a super candidate! :D

Hope this is helpful!

thats a nice rifle...are Savages as accurate as they are hyped up to be? (1/4-1/2 moa with minor tweaking)

Well, mine shoots under 3/4" at 100yd with mass-produced (i.e. powder-measure, no individual load weighing) handloads and hunting-grade bullets (Sierra 165 GameKings). I bought it last spring and spent the summer trying to develop the most accurate hunting load I could, so I didn't use something like 168 MatchKings or Berger VLDs. This was in Federal 'American Eagle' bulk brass, once-fired and not match-prepped; just FL resized and trimmed to length.

With match-prepped brass (I gotta have something to do during the winter!), fireformed, and with match projectiles loaded with a shorter jump to the lands, I'd bet it'll get to 0.5MOA if I do my part.

Now, with match barrels and plenty of tuning, guys are winning matches with Savages. If you want your best deal for "out of the box" match-grade rifles, I'd go with a Savage 12FV or 12FVSS. But for a hunting rig that shoots better than I can under hunting-rest conditions, you can't beat my 10FCP in .308 in my opinion.

i might have to try someones 10 fcp...or hopefully flcp...yes im lefty...they look beautiful i am just wondering if it would be smart to chop off the muzzle break...loud and pointless...like rap music

Another option is buy a $300 Stevens and have someone fit a match quality barrel to it. That will allow you to avoid running the gauntlet of varying quality in factory barrels.

i might do that with some of the fcxp3's say 308 and 300 win mag? would those be good rifles? ps. i inherited a browning 7mm rem mag...would that be as good as the 300 win mag?
