I was just beating an idea around my skull at work today, rebarrel one of my norc to a WIN 270. other then a barrel change in there anything else i would need to concider

M14 action is too short for .30-06 length cartridges. Though I have heard of M1 Garand rifles being rebarreled to .270 and beyond. I think that the amount of work to make a .270 work in the short action of an M14 would be astronomical and hugely expensive. Your best bet would be to buy a beater Garand (if you can find one) or an action (I think Marstar still has the bare actions) and start from there.

you'd need to GAIN about a half- inch at least in the receiver- the 270 is built on the 06, not on the 308-you could concieveably go 7mm/08, with far less trouble, provided you could get the gas system to work- springfield did make a 243 version of the m1a at one time, and that's a 6mm- YOU might HAVE TO USE A DIFFERENT SIZE FOR THE GAS-HOLE

"...heard of M1 Garand rifles being rebarreled to .270..." Early SA Inc M1's came in .270, as I recall. Like ErikT says, the .270 is too long for the action and mag.

I would truly love to see a barrel mfg'er step up and crank out barrels in a variety of calibers like:

.260 Rem
.243 Win
7mm-08
6.5 Creedmore ?

And finally a .22-250 for my earthpig expeditions.... heeeeere kitty kitty kitty

Yeeeeha!!! And yes, I shot/hunted earthpigs with a TRW M14 shooting handloaded 125 gr bullets!
