So I had my unfired Norc out the other day and loaded the first EVER magazine into it and it piled up on the 4th round. The semi circle on the side of the bolt that the charging handle grabs came right out. Now the bolt flops loosely around and the charging handle is now for show. its probably not a huge fix, and I never tried to fix it yet but god damn! How disappointing. Yes I cleaned it when i got it. Am i missing something? I know the M305s and Norinco in general are low end but I was really expecting to maybe get at least ONE magazine through it before a failure!

what kind of ammo where you using?

norc ammo, and yes i looked it over quite thoroughly. i functioned it alot in my shop before i shot it. like i said, im sure its not a hard fix but still 4 rounds it a bit alarming to me! even w cheap surplus ammo.

if your bolt roller was a semi circle before you fired the gun it was already broken,it should be a full circle.should have no problem with warranty. 4 rounds with a broken roller
what a war horse.

X 2 for what slyty said. Read through the stickies and check the photos. If your bolt roller did not look like the completely circular ones pictured, you should not have fired it. Sorry, but no good roller bearing is ever semi-circular, or anything else but round. Good luck with your dealer and let us know how they back you up.

I'm in the Edmonton area and by no means a M14 expert but it might help to have a second set of eyes on it.

WHAT DA MANN SAYZ, fotos PLEEZZE.
Many good guys here with tons of experience on the M14 platform.

I've a Norc in front of me right now. Hmmm.

Is it possible that you had an "out of battery" discharge? How did that 4th firing sound? Was it louder? Inspect the empty cases and see if one looks different from the others.

Pics are needed for sure.

One thing I am noticing on an awful lot of these new rifles is extremely sloppy and loose oprods. This condition is not desireable and can lead to a situation where A) bolt disengages from oprod's roller pocket.
B) oprod jumps out of it's track

I am also finding another undesireable condition with some rifles. The oprod, as it comes to rest in the forward position, is physically resting on the roller. This is NOT good. There should be no "pressure contact" between roller and rear of the oprod pocket when the action is closed.
This condition is responsible for cracking, shattering or disengaging the bolt roller from the bolt.

EVERYONE, should check their M1A's , M305's and any other variant of the M14 for this often overlooked condition.
And before anyone goes ranting on about that's what you get for buying a norinco.... I've seen this condition arise during many non chinese builds (LRB , SAI) and it is a routine procedure. Solved by clearancing inside the roller pocket of the oprod so that when action closes, the oprod is not resting on the roller.

In addition to Doc's comments, one should also check the op rod to ensure it does not have a "little hump" which in effect "cradles" the roller while moving along the receiver just prior to going into battery.

Had a Norc road AND a USGI oprod do that. Pictures are on previous posts and a very easy solve. The effect was that the bolt roller was being slammed into battery, shattering the roller because at that point, the bolt face was resting against the barrel.
