Hey there CGN'ers! Once again I turn to you for some advice!

working on getting all my parts together for a new m14s build, and I am on the quest for a solid top rail solution.

Now off the bat, I have tried to order one of the UTG tri-rails and the seller just contacted me stating that the UTG Tri-Rail is ITAR controlled
(which totally does NOT sound right to me? but thats another story)

It seems there are quite a few people running these handguard replacements but it seems there is a lot of hate out there for UTG.
Does anyone have experience with this particular rail system and know where to get one??

I am also wondering what my other options may be?

I have found the Desert Warrior products one @ $200

There is also the VLTOR CASV-14 @ $365

Any other options out there I should know about??

Thanks in advance for any insights you may have.

To be clear I am specifically looking for forward handguard rails. Not scope mounts which sit over the receiver.
As far as I can see m14.ca doesn't offer anything like this?

LOTF - Frank at M14.ca is working on a railed hand guard. From what he has shared it sounds like he is on a final version of his prototype.

Even so, late summer would not be unreasonable for him to start getting these to the street. ...long wait if you are in a build.

Thanks PR! -- Any word on pricing for the rail offering from m14.ca??
though it would be really nice to get this build together before summer!

QOR - thanks for the heads up!

Yep there are alot of options out there.
M14.CA is 1 but there is others like Vltor, Troy, Springfield, Ultimak and Super Scout and if you realy want a UTG rail flee bay sells them and also here:

Is anyone out there actually running one of the UTG rails?
I have seen a lot of stuff online of folks saying they have put hundreds of rounds through with it and not had an issue.
But there also seems to be a bunch of folks who are ready to say what a piece of crap the UTG rails are and how they will not stand up to 'real-use' ie. out in the bush or not at the range on a bench.

Anyone have some real world experience with the UTG rails to offer?

I like the UTG but it misses one thing...
Other than the Troy Battlerail, who else makes a top rail for the M1A where the top rail go's all the way back to the stripper clip guild???

Ya but did I read that right... 14 fasteners LOL
I'll stick with Ultimak, it doesn't get much better.
As for UTG, properly installed, I have had zero issues on many rifles, and a greater number of rounds.

Here is the post where Frank talks about his new handguard and muzzle brake. The handguard is supposed to fit a range of stocks, not just a Blackfeather. I'm looking forward to the muzzle brake since it's supposed to screw directly onto an M305 muzzle.

Hey Tom, have you ever used the UTG with that small rail that fits into the stripper guild??? How solid is it???

Haven't used the UTG rear piece. I made my own that has rail from stripper clip guide meeting flush with the UTG. It's in patent process and not commercially availlable
