Norc M305 Top Rail Options

sorry, didn't mean to tease.
don't hold off on a purchase waitin for me, that project is wayyyyyy on the back burner
gonna call brownells tomorrow for the skinny on ultimak. my guess is a temporary lapse in export permit. these things always happen at beginning of year and tend to get worked out by mid march thru may. it's a familiar pattern i've noticed with a lot of u.s. made stuff.
 
The short stripper clip rail would probably be fine for a red dot, but good luck getting the thing to sit level with the rest of the rail. The hand guard was pretty good, I gave up on the short rail.
 
I ran the utg with a striper clip rail at first. took me grounding out my turrets on my scope after a lot of shimming to figure out that it wasnt a good idea. The two rails were at least a full mm different in height. another complaint is that it kinda looks of centered to the front sight post.

I quickly moved to a CASMII from M14.ca

...then bought the blackfeather stock. Now, CASM sits on the long gun, and the utg top rail is compatible with the Blackfeather stock fitted to a shorty. A red dot works well on it. I've fired well into 1000 rnds with the UTG on.

ya, the VLTOR handguard would probably be my personal first choice and was going to order one up for a SEI build I'm gonna be putting together once i have the rest of my parts. I really like the track record of VLTOR's products in general and that rail coming all the way back is slick and just the ticket for the scope I'm planning to run the rig with.

I don't see why it wouldn't BUT, while I have a black feather here, I don't have a Vltor handguard yet to see if it clears the BF"s oprod guide. Frank might have a better idea if it works on his stock. The BF stock I have here isn't mine and will be gone before my vltor will be here I think. The owner wanted a fully redesigned, tacticool slotted , non railed carbon fiber handguard that carried the blackfeather look so I had to get creative :D

I don't know if anyone has posted a complete list of what's out there for handguard rails so here goes (feel free to add any I miss ;) )

-UTG tri rail
-Amega Ranges - last I checked still not importable
-KAC M14 RAS - importable, expensive
-Troy Battle Rail
-Ultimak M8
-springfield scout
I think smith enterprise has a scout mount as well.

And, as far as what's on the market right now, importable or not.... I think that's it
Dealers who supply these items, stock them in small quantity, when they are availlable at all.
 
I am putting out the first 100 M14.ca SHG (short, low hand guards) as soon as possible. As mentioned earlier, this hand guard will be compatible with any M14-type rifle with a standard contour barrel (all Norinco/Polytechs, most M1As that have not been modified) and it will have features the Ultimak does not. For Blackfeather users, the rail will index to the Blackfeather Op Rod Guide and will allow you to optionally run the Blackfeather 4" picatinny rails at 10 o'clock or 2'oclock. It will be the lowest hand guard made that will afford you this option and it will be priced competitively. It will be a secure, high value part. Looking forward to it. I will be inspecting and releasing each and every one as soon as they are ready. Thank-you for your support.

I apologize for the dumb question, and perhaps I missed it earlier, but I just want to be sure. Will these fit the OEM Norinco Shorties without issues? I also run a USGI stock.
