After about 3 dozen AR 15 builds, starting from piles of loose parts,
I am certainly no where the expert on the AR platform that ARTIZ apparently is,
but I'll add my two cents worth any how.

When it comes to the AR rifles, the lower is NOT all that critical. Durable , reliable AR lower receivers have been made from plastic, and functional lower receivers have even been made from WOOD!!! The NORC lowers are good enough, if a bit ugly when it comes to finish. However, if you are retentively quality conscious, any good quality lower parts kit will drop into a NORC lower, adding about $ 100 - $150 to the budget. And you have all those spare NORC original bits as back up spares
AR upper receivers have been made from plastic, so the NORC alloy upper receiver should be OK for a while. The internals that fly in close formation with each other inside the upper, are generally where the AR 15 needs careful quality control. While the NORCS come with acceptable internal parts, upgrading the bolt/carrier, etc with top quality pieces might seem like a silk purse/sow's ear type of equation, but the NORC WILL take all the expensive aftermarket add ons just fine. Sort of equivalent to dropping a Porsche engine into your VW bus, but there are people who do that too.
TWO of those three dozen AR builds were on the older METRIC Norinco lower receivers, and aside from the METRIC threaded buffer tube, and metric sized hole in the receiver for the change lever, both those OLD NORCS built up into very decent ARs. I used the original NORC Metric parts where required, and dropped in a decent lower parts kit. VOILA .... two excellent good to go AR lowers at a very reasonable price.
In fact, one of these NORC builds went to probably one of the most experienced firearms freaks I know of, with genuine military experience and lots of gun gaming trophies to his name. He doesn't care what it says on the side of the receiver .... all he cares about is that it is reliable, accurate, and CHEAP!
I handled the NEW English spec M4 clones when they first came in, and even though I can build an AR that is almost as inexpensive as a NORC, I was impressed enough [ and perhaps getting a bit LAZY] with the NORC M4s to get one myself.
My personal # 1 go to AR 15 is an LMT 10.5",
so I do have some experience with the difference between a "Tier One" M4 and a NORC ...
and there definitely ARE differences.
But your average Canuckistani AR 15 poodle shootin' Zombi Hunter is never going to shoot enough to need the extra reliability or durability.
Most of us on CGN are REMF,
NOT genuine door kickers,
so why get all snobbish about brand names??
The NORC M4 is a GREAT bargain,
and probably the best way to start out in the AR game,
and to keep things in perspective,
my LMT upper alone cost about twice as much as an entire Norc M4.
And like several other people have already said in this thread,,
from a meter away, you can't see the difference.
BTDT,
saved money on the gun and bought more ammo,
LAZ 1
