Hello Gents,
Just wanted to share my experience from last night . . . been putting off a full cleaning of the Woodsman (yes it's a clone I know) because of it's rep as a PIA to take apart and put back together.
Before jumping into it, I hit YouTube for a couple of videos (who knew the internet had useful videos on it). Found a Colt Woodsman tear-down/re-assembly video series, watched them a few times and went at it.
Once you capture the recoil spring it's a pretty straight forward tear down . . . yeah so I thought.
A couple of pins fell out and away (serves me right for not doing this over my regular cleaning container). Additionally, the sear fell out. Exactly what I didn't want to happen. Well I found the sear and one of the pins pretty quickly, however, the other pin was MIA!
Spent an hour or so looking for it and finally tracked it down, funny how hard a 1/2 inch long small diameter pin is to find once it bounces a few times.
Then hit the internet (again) to see how the damn sear fits in. Tracked down a exploded view and after a few tries it went back in properly.
The re-assembly is a bit of a PIA but it's not as terrible as people would lead you to believe. Takes a few tries to get the spring in properly, push in the main spring housing (making sure to capture the hammer lever in the right spot) and finally seating the housing with a good push.
Needless to say it was a learning experience. Hopefully next time I will remember about those damn pins.
Lessons learned from this, the internet is a savior if you don't have the original manuals or need a demo of the actual procedure you are about to attempt.
Additionally, working over a container is always, always a good idea
