Hello Gents,

Just wanted to share my experience from last night . . . been putting off a full cleaning of the Woodsman (yes it's a clone I know) because of it's rep as a PIA to take apart and put back together.

Before jumping into it, I hit YouTube for a couple of videos (who knew the internet had useful videos on it). Found a Colt Woodsman tear-down/re-assembly video series, watched them a few times and went at it.

Once you capture the recoil spring it's a pretty straight forward tear down . . . yeah so I thought.

A couple of pins fell out and away (serves me right for not doing this over my regular cleaning container). Additionally, the sear fell out. Exactly what I didn't want to happen. Well I found the sear and one of the pins pretty quickly, however, the other pin was MIA!

Spent an hour or so looking for it and finally tracked it down, funny how hard a 1/2 inch long small diameter pin is to find once it bounces a few times.

Then hit the internet (again) to see how the damn sear fits in. Tracked down a exploded view and after a few tries it went back in properly.

The re-assembly is a bit of a PIA but it's not as terrible as people would lead you to believe. Takes a few tries to get the spring in properly, push in the main spring housing (making sure to capture the hammer lever in the right spot) and finally seating the housing with a good push.

Needless to say it was a learning experience. Hopefully next time I will remember about those damn pins.

Lessons learned from this, the internet is a savior if you don't have the original manuals or need a demo of the actual procedure you are about to attempt.

Additionally, working over a container is always, always a good idea :D

Knowing me, I'd do exactly the same. Take about 3 hours to get it back together, then realize I forgot to clean it while I had it apart. Sounds like you had a good time though. Marstar's got these coming back finally this summer. Forget microsoft stock, I'm investing in nork m93's.

I've got one of these and I've been hesitant to clean it because of their reputation. Can you post the link to the exploded view you found? I'm sure I'll find the youtube vids no problem.

Thanks!

I'll post the links to the videos and diagrams I found later tonight.

There are a few differences with the Colt models so the video was not 100% correct but it's more than workable and gives you a great idea of what to do.

BTW, the Norc Woodsman has a better mainspring set-up IMO. Easier to put back together.

I took mine apart only once....:D

take down is easy. re-assembly is a major PITA! probably wouldn't be too bad if I you left the spring in the slide. but I don't think it's necessary to disassemble it once you take it apart- you can pretty much clean it with the slide on

Did JOHNONE confirm more m93's coming? If so great , terrific bang for the buck !

I had a thread similar to this :p. Except my friend could not put it back together for a while. The eventual solution was scotch tape over the pins to hold them in place while cleaning.

takedown is pretty easy,as long as you don't let the recoil spring/guide rod fly out.mine flew to parts unknown and had to order another guide rod.

1. clear pistol by cocking it to check chamber and #### hammer.

2. remove mag and then push down on little button on top of slide while you cycle slide.the slide will now be "loose"(no spring pressure on slide).don't cycle slide any more, the recoil spring/guide rod is now compressed into slide.

3.push up and out on the mainspring (backstrap).it will come out along with the sheet metal spring(magazine release ).

4.pull slide off pistol(don't touch the little button on top of slide or else!!!if you do no biggy but to get the spring/guide rod back in is a pain.if you do want to take these parts out then do it in an "uncluttered room"(easy to find a part that flew out.the guide rod has a machined rim that the sheet metal retaining spring(on the slide) locks into.

5. reassemble by pushing on "disconnector" button as you reinsert slide on frame(little disconnector button on frame,NOT SLIDE)--this button must be pushed down for slide to go all the way forward.

6. place sheet metal spring(mag. button/spring)
into backstrap of frame making sure the spring locks into the slot on bottom of frame.that spring goes under the hammer strut.the sheet spring goes in then the strut lies on top.

7. the mainspring goes in next.make sure the rod that connects to the hammer(hammer strut) inserts into the mainspring housing spring(a cupped "spot drill" in that housing.push up and in.

8.when it locks in place all should be well.
cycle slide and it should work normally.

hope this helps...

I have a first generation woodsman and to dissasemble mine you have to pull the trigger after cycling the slide as you describe - I wonder which one the M93 is based on... I bet it is based on the third generation models.

I would reccomend taking apart the slide for routine cleaning. After doing it a couple of times I have found that it is very quick and easy to remove the slide, mainspring housing, etc, clean and reassemble. This is what was reccomended for regular cleaning by Colt back in the day.

DONT TAKE APART THE SLIDE!!!

I had written "I recommend taking apart the slide for routine cleaning" - what I meant was "I absolutely do not recommend taking apart the slide for routine cleaning". Completely unnecessary. I do it every couple of years if I am shooting it a lot - even that is probably overkill.

I meant to say remove the slide if you really want to do a good cleaning, this allows you to wipe the underside of the slide, oil a little and clean the bore from the chamber out.

youtube links?

hi pageophile, i have a colt woodsman, well 2 actually, and i have disassembled one ONLY ONCE! and probably never again. it was a bad gun experience. now i soak em in G-96 and then spray the crap out with brake cleaner.

i can't seem to locate the disassembly vids you were referring too; can you post em?

my OCD won't let the matter rest that i have so much trouble with these nifty little guns. And i want to replace a slide spring and firing pin spring.......

cheers..........
