Hey troops, this is just a FYI with a personal experience attached about the above mentioned conversion. When the Norc is placed in the SAGE stock the connector lok pin needs to be modified. Some folks modify the stock with a small aluminum block. I decided to replace the pin with a new GI one. The new pin is longer and larger than the Norc original. I had thought, through some internet discussions that having the receiver drilled for the new pin would have been a PIA, but it wasn't.The receiver material wasn't nearly as hard as expected. The work was performed by TacOrd and if you have a SAGE and develop this problem, you can have confidence in getting a fix that works and is not expensive. The replacement pin can be purchased from Wolverine supplies. To my knowledge this is the only "hang up" with the Norc/SAGE conversion. Hope this helps and should reduce the "learning curve" for new owners.

The Troy is the same. All I did was fill in the spot with Silicone the same way you would with JB weld or a popsicle stick in a fiberglass stock. Quick and easy and is sticks real well. No drilling or fussing required,

Hey guys....What is the issue with the pin and where is it? I am fairly new to the M14, and I have only put about 100rds through mine. Is this an issue with a USGI stock and what are the symptoms of the problem?

read the second post, maybe you'll understand, its the part (not the selector cutout) you should fill when following one of the main battle rifle sticky

I know what sticky you are referring to, but the images are missing and I cannot seem to see what is being filled with JB weld.

This mod is for the aftermarket SAGE stock. It has no bearing on the regular GI stock.

Berger: There's a cross pin that holds the op rod spring guide in place. It passes through the aft end of the spring guide right close to the mag well. The op rod spring guide is removed by moving the pin sideways to release it. What ordinarily keeps it(the pin) in position is the stock. But on GI stocks, there is more clearance there and the pin can move sideways and release the op rod spring guide. You need either to fill in that space with epoxy, popsicle stick or replace the pin with a longer one.

Thanks Griz...charles.emond sent me a PM with a good shot of the popsicle stick. After closer inspection of my USGI stock I remembered that I did fill the area with JB Weld when I filled the selector switch....

Hey kind of bringing an old post back from the dead, but do the norinco M305 owners that fitted them to a sage stock have issues with gaps between the receiver and the stock? I put my 305 in today and noticed some gaps and was unable to close the trigger guard to lock the trigger group and receiver together. I feel like I need to mill the stock down just a bit to close the gaps on the too side and allow me to lock the two together.

Anyone have any experience with this?

My Springfield Scout came from the factory with a short pin and it walked out when shooting my SAGE the first time allowing the spring and spring guide to come out partially when I attempted my first mag change - this was in 2004. The pin was replaced with the longer GI pin, but no drilling was required.

Since then, all of my Poly Tech and Norinco builds have new USGI or SEI pins installed and I think SEI did drill the receivers.
