Norc SKS - trigger group refusing to go back in

Having a hell of a time here, hopefully someone can help. I know with most SKS's (I own two Ruskie's and a Yugo) theres a fair amount of pressure that needs to be put on the trigger group to get that hook to slip back on. I just picked up a Norinco, cleaned the stock and removed all the cosmoline. When I got to installing the trigger group, it absolutely refuses to go in. I did a quick google search and didn't come up with much help... it's inside the catch behind the mag release, safety is on, not sure what to do. Perhaps the stock is swollen from being cleaned?

It needs to go down atleast another 1/8". Thanks for any and all help!

Check to make sure the duckbill at the front of the mag is in place properly, if it is out it may be what is holding you up with the trigger group

Easy solution: push the reciever all the way into the stock, hook the trigger group in and with one hand on the dust cover and the other palm on the trigger guard push in and slightly forward. It makes the most rebellious trigger groups snap right in.

Mag is correctly in place. Hammer is cocked. Receiver all the way in. Still wont go in. Tried removing the tension screw from out the of stock, something is preventing it from seating in the stock fully. The hook isn't even coming up enough. I think the stock is swollen, I might have to carve some of the wood out.

Make sure the safety is on ;)

Honestly, I don't know what the hell is going on here. I've been fighting with this thing for two hours now. Might have to try the C-clamp method tomorrow.

Take it apart again and make sure there's nothing out of place, put the action back in, magazine, then try it again. Something is out of whack in there.

Lol, Sorry. I see you said the safety is on in your first post. I read all the replies and didn't see that mentioned, I guess that's why no one else suggested it. :)

Put it upside down with the receiver cover on something firm and give the trigger group a whack with your palm. It's possible it is a tight stock and the action is moving out as you push the trigger group in without you realizing it. It wouldn't take much. I had one once where I couldn't seat the trigger group with the rifle in my hands, I had to do as I described above.

Good luck

Success! Dust cover off, took a pair of large vice grips and forced that whore back together. Thanks for the help guys!

I hope I don't ever come across one this difficult again.

They are a bit ch to get back in, always waste time putting trigger back in and locking in place, but when it's done, you get a good feeling about it :D

I use a quick clamp on the tight ones. I have a Norc that was a real bugger to get back together but you gotta be patient and don't do anything rash and they will eventually pop in. It will get easier once you have taken it apart a few times. I just went through the same thing with my new SVT-40.

Make sure the hammer is cocked and the safety is on like the said. What i do when its tight like that is when you got it set in there push down on it really hard, put a cloth or a shirt over the trigger guard and smack it with a hammer as you keep applying pressure down. Works for me every time.
