Norc SKS

Is everyone sold out of the SKS's nowadays?

Leaver and Marstar are all sold out.

lever and marstar been out since before xmas but try milarms and SIR.

My cousin has a norc SKS we shoot a lot, but we are wondering if theres any way to get rid of the integral mag and put in a detachable mag? the spring is super stiff and it's a real pain to get the fifth round in. We are pretty new to rifles and don't want to mess it up, and I cant find anything on google.

Just saw that SIR, where he ordered it, has spare mags for the SKS, so I guess it can take it.
anyone have a quick explanation how its done?

Other then that mag its a really fun gun.

You'd be better off working with the original mag. The aftermarket "duckbill" mags are mostly garbage.

Sounds like you just need to work on whatever's pinning the mag. If you tune it so you can insert 5 1/2 rounds you'll be much happier with it.

Depends on how it's pinned. By your description, you need the mag follower to depress a little bit more.

You may need to shorten or relocate the pin to get the follower to move a bit more. If you can post a pic or two of the mag we should be able to help you. Just unhinge it and get the pinning mechanism in the picture.

The standard SKS magazine holds 10 rounds and are pinned/blocked for the Canadian market.

Century mangled some Soviet SKS's with 5 rounds mags years ago, but I haven't seen that on Chinese rifles.

Hmm, ok sounds good, I guess I just assumed it went to the bottom, it's fairly small. Thanks for the patience Stevo, I know you must be a busy guy.

No worries. Can't say as I'm particulary busy right now.;) Let us know what you find in your mag.

I like mine. Nothing spectacular by any means, but one of those guns I had to have. I did spend a few bucks though, and made it a little prettier ;)

My SIR SKS has a 1/2" diam. post pinned into the bottom of the magazine to only allow 5 rnds. bought at SIR last summer. Presume yours should be the same.

Here's a pin question.....When did this five shot rule come into effect ?? The reason I am asking is that my buddies friend left me a message today asking if I want to buy his 1950 Russian SKS and his left over ammo. I know he has had this SKS in the safe for many years, and I am guessing if he aquired it before the five rounds in a mag rule, his mag would hold ten shells. If this is the case, how does one make that mag legal without ruining the mag, or is it a better idea (value wise) to keep the original mag not pinned and buy a used mag and pin that one to use ????

Mag restrictions came in around '91, IIRC. Wait and see if it's pinned or not before you worry about it.

You can alway modify the follower to prevent it moving too far. That way you don't have to put any holes in the mag.

I forget which size fits best, bring a bag of shapes to the range and see which one restricts loading past 5 rounds. :)
