Nordegg alberta Shoot

What the hell. Set the date - I'm in. Have family in Drayton Vally, so Nordegg ain't much of a stretch from there.

Well I'm sure there would be a plethora of calibers present so it would be nice if everyone had the option to stretch their rifles out to their extremes. How about if we had a plate or two around 800 and 1000 and for the larger magnums out past 1200 somewhere. Is it possible to shoot out to 1500+? I'm sure the 338 Lapua shooters would love that! Any 50 BMGs among us? I'm getting excited!!

lol 1200 and further for the larger magnums ehh sorry to say but ill run my 308 to 1200 thank you and my 6.5 will make the trip to 1700

From my experience 338 are really hard on targets! 338 shooters should bring there own targets to destroy.
338 will put a 2" deep dent in a hanging 1/4 inch plate at a mile(1760 yards).

All the below calibers just splater on impact, on 1/2" or thicker to 1000 1/4" at 1000 to 1500.
My experience 223 to 1000, 308 to 1200, 6.5-284 to 1760, 7wsm to 1860 impact site, 270win to 1000 and a bunch of 25 cal wildcats to 1760. 45/70 to 1000.
The 300wm and 338 both leave a dent at all distances out to a mile.
In 3 years I had 140 people shooting at my targets.
Steve - big, but not so big there hard to lift!! Those rods are 5/8 and 3/4.
We need to have florescent orange paint for old fellers.
Maybe some guys can bring an extra can for repainting targets.

Why is there always a self righteous individual who takes things too serious and takes away the fun of this forum. But seeing how you prodded me I will bite.

I agree with you completely. I shoot long range from time to time and am quite aware of what calibers are capable of. But practically speaking if a guy who hasn't shot over 1000 yards before shows up with is 308 hunting rifle will probably send a lot of lead down range before he hits the 1200 gong. The 650 gong wouldn't be a huge challenge so one at 800 and 1000 would be an easy next step with some help from experienced guys like you. My intent was not to imply shooting over 1200 yards was reserved for larger magnums only. On the contrary. I am fully aware that at long range, a 6.5 bullet sufficiently propelled, has better ballistics than a 300 Win Mag. Though there are long range hunters among us where down range energy is important as well as accuracy when taking game. Energy your 6.5 or mine at 1700 will never have and where larger magnums excel.

This is supposed to be fun so I will not fuel this silly argument further.

Looks like people are into it. To much work for one person but if a bunch of us get in on it just might be a go. No date or time just yet thinking summer.

Hey no hard feelings. Sometimes it difficult to sense the tone behind ones' comments. I guess we're both guilty of that eh? Looking forward to the shoot and some help from you to stretch my 6.5x284 further than I have before.

just a heads up guys cut some plate up for this today and things are looking good for this , now just the stands to hang everything . so who is taking charge and organizing ? i am more then happy to offer my help with what needs to be done. pm's work for contact with any extra needs

i will have my four place trailer there so we can use that if things are wet on the ground

Well lets try and set a date soonest. That way everyone will have enough lead time to ensure attendance. I vote we shoot rain or shine but that's just me. I sure hope I'm on days off when this shoot happens.

Hey Steve
Does your trailer have an awning? if so I throw my tent under it and put my little electric fence up to keep out bearscou: That way I can snore all I like.

I'm starting to work on the betterhalf letting me go. Bye the end of April I should be good to go. After 28 glorious years thats the way it works. I had to dig out my ammo to see if I had any reloaded. It sucks selling and moving and putting everything in storage, while you build the new house.

What is the longest shot at the proposed site??
It will tell me if I need to shim my scope again. I'm good to about 1500 yards for the 6.5-284. 308 to 1200yds.

my trailer is just a sled trailer so sorry no awning Hugh i have a table at the calgary gun show so for me that weekend is out but i would put forth the April 30 and the 1 of May? since there is nothing posted for a date just yet?

should also see who has quads and or tub trailers to help speed things up with setting up ? ill bring my quad and supply a case of paint to refresh the steel
