Can anyone settle an argument between me and my brother??

I have a 14" barrel Norinco shotgun pump. I want to put a folding stock on. It will be less than 26" total when it is folded in. Is this legal???

I say yes, my bro says no. Help!

Thanks everyone. I love this website.

Nope, it is illegal. The black letter law on restricted is complicated, and depends on a lot of factors. Adding to the confusion is that the RCMP have reversed themselves recently on one interpretation of restrcted vs non-restricted with sub 26 inch guns.

What does seem to be clear from the black letter law is you can not reduce the overall length by folding below 26 inches.

I thought there were a few individuals on board who tried the Specops Folder on a 14" and the OAL was over 26".

The Specops folder has that long extension unlike other folders with pistol grips. In fact, I believe the Breacher's grip is about the same and is over 26" OAL on a 14" barrel.

I don't know about the Cops stock.

Thanks everyone! Better get that Knoxx SpecOps to be on the safe side

That would be the key. Any measureable length past the 26 inch mark ought to be perfectly fine.

So has it been settled yet whether it's okay to put a non-folding pistol grip onto a shotgun that would bring the overall length under 26" ? I'd love to be able to do that with my HP-9 or better yet pack an 8.5" or 12.5" barrelled gun with pistol grip on hiking trips. Lets hope for the best!

...a non-folding pistol grip onto a shotgun...

What's a non-folding pistol grip?

Do you mean a typical (permanent) pistol grip like the Hogue Tamer?

Or a pistol grip stock like the Speedfeed?

The "Witness Protection" style pistol grip like this one from Speedfeed is an option for some. It's not my bag but it adds a couple of inches over a typical pistol grip to achieve the 26" limit with short barrels.

None the less, I'd like to see these barrel/overall length issues settled too.

I just thought this up...

Mest Tactical adapter plus

Bushmaster pistol grip buffer tube.

Equals short barreled shot gun over 26"

With the AR-15 buffer tube wrench you can slap on any AR-15 style stock if someone gives you s**t...It's sort of a freak show but I think it's better than the "Witness Protection" style pistol grip if you need the added overall length.

What do you think? It's cleaner than welding or brazing some broom handle, etc. on the end...

Dudes! You could also put batteries in it for the EOTech 553:cool:

No, Dlask are currently still fighting this one. His interpretation which was initially supported by the RCMP tech branch is that as long as the parts are commercial and not DIY, the gun isn't restricted just because of a short OAL and a pistol grip.

With a Knoxx SpecOps folder the pistol grip extends out the back a few inches, similarly to the Breecher Grip. The Knoxx CopStock and most any other folder out there does not have the extra length.

With 14" barrel, and the Knoxx SpecOps folder: ~27 1/4" Overall Length
