Norinco 1911 9mm vs 45acp

1911 = .45acp

Of the following I've shot off the 1911 platform - .22lr, 9mm, .38 Super, .40 S&W and 10mm I still like the .45ACP the best.

1911s generally work the best in the original configuration: .45 ACP, 5" barrel, steel frame, and single stack magazines.

If you reload with either homemade or store-bought cast bullets, the cost difference between 9mm and .45 is small.

I think that a 1911 should be in 45 ACP as well, the only other I would consider is 38 Super because it is not so common. As others have said, if you reload the cost is not that much more for 45, though I do have a few pistols in each caliber but no 1911's in 9mm.

I have a number of 1911's, including Norinco in both 9mm and 45. All of the 1911s have had a trigger job, except the Norc 9mm, which got a new Wilson hammer - $45. All the Norcs are accurate.

I bought the 9mm used about a month ago, on EE. I installed the hammer yesterday and test shot it tonight. It just shot a fantaistic 20 yard group (for me). It is the most accurate 9 I own. It is also the heaviest, and with mild ammo a dream to shoot rapid fire.

One thing I noticed abot the Norc 45's and the Norc 9mm is that they have short throats. I used to make my 9mm 1.025" but at that length the bullets engage the rifling of this Norc. The ammo I shot tonight was 1.005". It still fed perfectly but groups were half the size of last week.

I suggest you buy the Norc 1911 in 9mm, get it a trigger job and then don't think for a second that a SIG, or Glock or CZ is better. ( I own them all, and tend to shoot what works best - my CZ 9 and now the Norc 9. My Para Ord and Norc 45's are about the same - very good.
