Took my new norinco 1911 to the range for the first time, brass ejecting front, side, and back. Does it with reloads and factory. Any ideas how to fix?
Thanks.

As mentioned already, it's a good idea to check the extractor . If you can borrow another one & try it in your gun, that will tell you.

Also, have a look at the ejector, the part that is fixed to the frame. That is what kicks out the brass when the slide comes back. See if the part that will contact the brass has any burrs on it . It might even be broken but unlikely.

I’m assuming that if it’s new, it’s not just dirty. The extractor probably needs some tension and contouring. The ejector contact point may need tuning. The firing pin stop could be loose, allowing the extractor to rotate or “clock”. The brass could be hitting the edges of the ejection port and bouncing around – check your brass and ejection port for marks. It's not uncommon for stock 1911's to kick brass all over the place.

Had the same problem. Bought a 686. Problem solved:D

Seriously, I agree with the gents who suggested taking a look at the extractor and ejector.

Field strip the pistol and take a few pictures of those two (do not remove the ejector from the frame) to help the experts analyze the problem.

Take a picture of the extractor in and out of the slide.

NAA.

Thanks for the Information Gentleman, as over the years I have owned a few colt 1911's and had the good fortune of them putting the brass in the same general area, which makes it easier to find and pick up. And jasonS, no I am not expecting a neat little pile.

Does your eject brass about 10 feet away? Mine has that problem :D

Hard looking for brass that are out the door of the shooting hut and into the parking spaces :p

I m not a gunsmith but in my experience, brass ejecting that far is usually a sign that the slide is coming back really fast & kicking out the brass.Might be a little hard on the gun. Moving to a slightly heavier recoil spring works for me. Or shoot a milder load.

Did you do an initial tear down and 'de-grime'? Norcs are pretty well-known for looking like a really unkempt gravel-pit internally out of the box. I know mine did.

mine spits it reasonably well, but once the brass bounces off a post, it's likely to go anywhere. then again, mine didn't get shot until AFTER i totally stripped it and cleaned it.

+1 to a new Norc being grimy. mine was swimming in chinese oil - now it just has synthetic grease on the slide and synthetic oil on the pivots.

one thing you could consider is a brass trap, kind of like what i'm looking for. someone posted a nice link in my own thread on that:
