Norinco 1911 from Canada Ammo deal... pics for anyone wondering

For the disassembly for soaking did you just field strip? Or did you completely disassemble? I have one coming and just looking for some more tips on the cleanup.

I got my Norc package this last week, and spent a couple of hours today cleaning it up. I detail stripped it, degreased with brake cleaner, wiped it all down with G96 and then reassembled it with Gunslick Pro Ultra-Lube on the internals, esp the mainspring assembly and any other hard-to-access spots. Note that rubber gloves and Tim Horton Ice Cap cups break down pretty quickly with brake cleaner...

In short...I'm impressed. The bluing is solid...maybe not artistically beautiful, but mine has no visible flaws. There's a bit of roughness on the sides of the trigger guard and on the grooves of the mainspring housing but not bad at all. Fit is very decent...hardly any rattle to the slide, really good for a military-grade gun. Trigger pull is a little heavy, a little creepy, but will probably improve with some shooting. I don't know anything about tuning 1911 triggers, so I did nothing at all to it. The safeties work fine...I adjusted the grip safety spring as it was a touch sloppy at first. I cleaned up one Norc mag [left the other one wrapped up]. It didn't work too well at first...wouldn't eject or hold the slide back...but after running dummy rounds through it a few times, it now seems to work okay. I suspect there must have been a burr on the mag release or maybe on the mag itself hanging things up. I have found in past that Norinco mags work pretty well if you clean them thoroughly and polish the insides of the body and edges of the follower. The plastic grips are fairly tacky, but mine are uncracked and quite useable. I see that Marstar has some nice wood grips for $40....

New guns are always fun, but I think I'm going to keep this one unfired and put it on the EE. I have a very decent two-tone Norc .45, and I don't need a second one. Note that my two-tone got a 'Norinco Prep' job at Armco after I got it. If it had been as good as this new gun, I probably wouldn't have bothered.

Anyone who has the least desire for a 1911A1 should jump on the CanadaAmmo deal with both feet....

I bought 2 more of these... pre-sold the guns themselves for $250 each to some friends and have let everyone know ill sell the ammo for $20 a box, as many boxes as they want. Everyone is pumped about it and all i have to do is play "the bank" for a while. Well worth it.

Have this deal on order right now. Just received an email order is ready to ship. I already have a 1911 but I couldn't pass up this deal. I think I am going to have a nice Cerokote finish on this one.

Blarf... just going through my reg certs... I have 22 restricted guns... only 2 of which are rifles...

I bought one of these and I like it... I'm really in a 1911 kind of mood...

Maybe I should sell off the three TT33's I bought recently.

What do you all think? Is it better to have 4 1911's or 3?

I have 9...... So I think you need to catch up! :D

If it means you or yours has to do with-out, then no.

If everything else in your life is covered, then of course 4 is better than 3!

I managed to get the Wilson drop in beavertail/grip safety installed using a skeletonized hammer a friend had laying around. These 2 parts were BOTH total drop in's... no fitting or modification necessary. Not sure what brand the hammer is, but it looks cool. Also swapped the extended mag release from my SR-1911, put on a set of Hogue wrap around grips and the trigger from dlask. I do intend to order another extended slide release for this gun. But thats it. It works flawlessly and looks like a gun you wouldnt be afraid to knock around.

In use at the last match at my range:

Total invest now is right around the $270 mark... Cant complain. Ive run about 600 rounds through it with only a few stove pipes and all seemed related to the brand of ammo... gun runs like a champ.

Heres a video:

If you decide to swap out sights, it will require the use of a mill.

The dovetails are not compatible with anything brownelles has, so I would venture a guess that no one makes one and/or Nork uses no known pattern.....

The sights are standard Colt. the front sight is a Colt Series 70 (known as the narrow tenon model). I have installed a variety of makes of rear sights on my Norc 1911s, including LPA and Micro.

On other Norc clones (SIG and CZ) the dovetails do not match the originals.

i have 3 of these pistols now, and just returned from the range. I shot the 200gr lead SWC out of all three, plus a Colt officers model, for comparison.

The test involved 5.6 gr to 7.2gr of unique, in 0.3 gr increments. Each pistol had a load that shot well (grapefruit sized group at 25 yards, shot standing, 2 hands)

The Norcs all had very, very heavy triggers, although all 3 were creep-free. By heavy, I mean around 8 to 10 pounds. I took the mainspring housing off (push the pin out at the bottom side of the grip frame). Then I pushed out the mainspring retaining pin using the shank of a pop rivet (catching the spring when it tried to pop out). The mainspring supplies the energy to the hammer. It has a pin inserted in it, top and bottom. I pulled the bottom pin out and used my sidecutters to cut off 3 coils. I then put the bottom pin in where the cut was made and put it back together. This reduced the trigger pull to about 5 to 6 pounds. Still too heavy, but better.

Is the hammer strike now too weak? I loaded a few empty cases with large rifle primers and tested them. They went bang, so there is still lots of hammer energy.

I compared the hammer stiffness to some accurized 1911s that have milder Wolff mainsprings installed. Those hammers are much lighter to #### than the Norc with the clipped coils.

I am about to order some light Wolff mainsprings.

P.S. I Just tried the target pistol mainspring on my GI. It did not drop the trigger weight any further. So clipping the spring will help, but to get below about 6 pounds a trigger job is required.
