Hori, Yukon that would be some great advice. I have some that stay in the safe all clean never to see day light, now thats a waste, this will be a shooter thats for sure.... Has anyone polished a 1911 down to bare metal and not reblued it? I'm thinking provided that I do a good job with the polish and keep it well lubed I should be fine! any thoughts on that

I've really enjoyed this thread both before but especially after I ordered one. Some posts are quite amusing. The pics posted show decent but not great "curb appeal" (except post 1077, page 108 where there is definitely some material missing, I'd get a replacement myself). I've visited a number of other forums looking for opinions on Norinco and for the most part they all laud the basic firearm as a dependable workhorse but not a beautiful thoroughbred (looks). Most look a bit rough on finish so I hope mine isn't too much of an "ugly duckling". I find myself chuckling about the impatient waiting comments, it's like waiting for Christmas to get here, lol.

I do agree with others though, that better pics by Canam and informing that they were a 1997 military order (rejected?) would have been more upfront about the product. They are milspec aren't they?

...Just got mine today, finish looks good! Slide serrations on all these Norcs are cut a little crude, but other than that the finish is pretty great.

My only gripe is the slide/frame fit is a bit loose, rattles a little when the hammer is cocked... I've heard differing opinions on whether slide to frame fit actually affects accuracy, anyone else get one that is a bit "loosey goosey?"

Trigger is good right out of the box, not much creep and probably around 5lbs... Going to change it over to a flat MSH and long trigger though.

Is it worth getting the gun tightened? This is my first 1911, so I'm not sure what is involved in tightening a slide to a frame...

Got mine today... a day early. Yay.
Heres some pics I snapped with my phone in my office. I thought some people might like to see exactly what it looks like in the box.

First the initial unboxing pics: In the box I found the gun in its box, a package of targets, a magazine and a novelty pen. Just like everyone already said.

Now on to the gun:
The box is sturdy, foam is well cut and not messed up at all. Manual is above the styrofoam. Inside the box youll find the gun, which is wrapped in a thick-ish plastic and sealed (not just taped, but actually heat sealed shut). One mag is in the gun, one is in another sealed package in the foam. Cleaning brush and handle are not sealed.

Gun itself is covered with grease as all have said. Its not bad if your someone who's ever cleaned an SKS. Im sorry the pics suck. I only had my phone and didnt want to start shooting flash photography of a gun in my office.

Barrel is packed with a little sliver of white material. Or material that was white before they coated it with grease.

I looked my gun over as best I could and didnt find any obvious issues at all. The grips are not cracked at all. There are not major imperfections on the slide or frame. I cycled it and dry fired it and everything worked, even covered in grease. The mag was stuck in a bit but once I just barely pull it loose it fell right out. Locked tight without much effort.

I can see some light scratches here and there but nothing I wasnt expecting to find on a $170 gun and nothing I dont think youd find on a $400 gun that was lightly used anyway. So no complaints from me. As long as this thing goes boom when I pull the trigger... im one very happy camper.

The ammo came in another box, didnt open it. I will later and let you know how it was packed. Doesnt feel like a wooden crate inside, but it might be.

So jealous of all you that have received yours already. Goin on 20 days since order with the only email from can am saying they took my money on the 29th

Does anyone know if the grip screws & bushings are standard threads on these Norc 1911's? Just wonering if they can be easily replaced.

Just got mine. Looks good so far. Gotta clean it all up. It's funny becuase most of you are saying there gonna shoot the chit out if these ones. I'm not. I'm gonna put nice wood grips on it and admire it. I have 6 norico handguns to beat up already. And I think the cracked grips are a prerequisite , thanks can am

Even after all this recent "bad press" about the incoming Norinco's, I think most of us will be pleasantly surprised.
And if they're really that bad, I'll paint one pink and give it to the GF. Some say she has low standards, anyway.
Thats funny, and thank god for girls with low standards, otherwise a lot of us would be solo and practising solo shooting!

Go shoot that 1000 rnds of ammo. Better yet get someone familiar with 1911s to shoot it, they'll tell you if changes are needed.

Don't be surprised when it takes a lot of 45ACPs to get use to the extra recoil, a lot harder to control 45 vs. 9mm.

My new Norinco is here! My new Norinco is here! A day earlier than expected, too.

Slide to frame fit is okay. Finish is much better than I was expecting after reading some posts in this thread. It's got a heavy trigger, but tuning the trigger on a Norc is par for the course.

Overall, very pleased with this deal.

And some freebies on top of it all!

The back looks like actual material is missing not finish but you would be able to tell. Also it looks like there is less slide material thickness on the left side where the frame slides in. Looking at other 1911s this is equal on both sides.

Compared with the latest picture, that appears to be correct. The reason its rough is that the material was lower than whatever machined it.

Nice .45

After seeing this nice piece I believe endophobic should talk to canam, his is very defective and I believe canam will send a new one without a problem, It probably is safe to shoot but is outside any acceptable limits of esthetic acceptability! This is understandable given the number of guns sold and being norc, if mine is like that I will want a replacement but I doubt it will be. so far most recipients are happy. Canam will be make good and have parts for the others from the few defective ones. I can't wait to get mine and shoot a .45 for the first time!! I have a $1500 S&W 100th ani model but am not shooting it! This one I will be blasting away with it and learning about the 1911. If they are around mid june I will be ordering another! Might paint it Pink! ;0)

I quoted garonimus and made a statement but it sort of looks like he is saying it,, not sure how I did that but, age I guess any way His is beautiful and endophobic should get a replacement,, looking forward to mine!

Add mine to the "got it today" pile. I took pics, but no different from those posted today so meh. My only complaint is that someone musta stole my gun pen (again!). Guess I'll have to rethink not ordering a 2nd combo.
