Norinco 1911 Government model what is the first part to change?

The only thing I changed on mine (from the last batch) was that I de-tuned some of the sharp edges with a file, stone and emery cloth to make it more comfortable to hold.
Trigger pull was pretty nice out of the box and keeps improving.
I don't mind the small sights.
Only reason to change things would be for personal reasons or esthetics.

agreed

First thing I did was change the sights. Personal preference.
These pistols work just fine as is.
It isn't necessary to change things for the sake of making changes. There are performance enhancing modifications that can be made, though.
Put money into ammunition and range time.

The sights. Those wee stock sights can be hard to see. Moreso in low light. The sights on their 'Sport' model will do.
Do a trigger job too. If you're in the least bit concerned about doing it yourself, go to a smithy.
"...more comfortable to hold..." Changing the grips will do that as well.

All you really need are good sights, a good trigger, and reliability. Everything else is gravy.

What is the first part to upgrade on a Norinco 1911 Government model?

And what would you upgrade it with?

:)

My recommendation is DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING; BUY AMMO INSTEAD. Shoot the gun and get a feel for what you like and don't like about it. Make yourself a promise not to change out any parts (except maybe grips) until you have at least a thousand rounds through the gun, maybe even two thousand. Make mental notes or even take notes. You will have a much better appreciation of the changes you do end up making when you have intimate knowledge of what you have changed. You may also find that you don't want to change as much as you originally thought you would... ;)

While you are putting the first thousand rounds through it, be sure to spend plenty of time at home researching what parts are available and what they do. That way when you encounter things you do not like about your gun, you will have an idea of what to do about it. Scour forums such as CGN, 1911forum.com, m1911.org and 10-8forums.com for information. They are all great forums that contain a ton of good info.

Completely tear your 1911 down (right down) and put it all back together again; a few times. Get familiar with each and every component that makes up your 1911, right down to the smallest pin. Become one with your 1911. ;) Only then can you begin to start changing out parts and components. It is the Tao of the 1911...

Or, just flip through the Brownells catalog and pick out whichever parts look cool to you and order them. ;) Either way, it's all good... :D

EDITED TO ADD:
All of that being said, go out any buy yourself some quality aftermarket magazines such as those offered form Chip McCormick, Wilson Tactical or Tripp Research. Quality mags are essential to to reliable operation of a 1911 and the good ones actually don't cost a lot more than the lesser quality ones.

Good idea. What did you use to touch up the finish in the areas where you filed/stoned?

All I did was put on Pacmeyer (sp?) combat grips, a full length guiderod, and the stiffer MARSTAR spring. Not essential, just easy.:D

I swapped out the oversized mag release and oversized slide stop on my Norc Police Model. I like the classic looks of the GI parts and I find they prevent malfunctions.

Everyone needs different upgrades.

For me, first will be to put in a drop-n beavertail and ring hammer if hammerbite is a concern for you.

Or if your original Norkie slide lock sometimes fails to hold the slide open, replace with an original Colt or similar part.

Or perhaps a long trigger but it is not an absolute necessity. The sights can be improved but again, the originals are useable until you want quicker sight/target acquisition.

Actually, IMO the Sport model has the goodies I would normally put in...not pretty but they work. The Armco package is nice but I have no need for it, no offense to those who do.

trigger, grips, slide stop, beavertail, thick bbl bushing ...whatever you think is better for you to change "Nork look" ...or leave it factory stock!

here is my Nork after changes I made with Fusion parts:
