Hey, I'm just looking for some confirmation that non-norinco magazines will work in a norinco 1911. Will the 8rd mags fit flush with the grip? Thanks!

Factory 8 round 1911 mags will fit flush on a Norinco 1911A1 or compact model.... ;)

Mec-Gar Mags causing problems in my Nork

I bought some stainless 8-round Mec-Gar mags from Brownells to use in my Norinco 1911A1 Police Model. The Norinco mags fed my pistol just fine, but when I switched to the Mec-Gars I was getting lots of failures to feed. Took my pistol apart to investigate. Turns out the location of mag catch notch in the Mec-Gar mags is a bit high which causes the mags to sit about 1.5 mm lower in my Nork than the factory mags did. This was forcing the nose of the bullet to jam on the lower lip of the feed ramp. Also, the mag stuck out the bottom of the magazine well by the same amount.

Not sure if I got a couple of bad mags or if all 8-round Mec-Gars have this same problem. Going to experiement with some some other brands. Until then, I'll switch back to the Chineese 7-rounders. They're ugly, but at least they work reliably.

I have used the same ACT-MAG magazines that Dlask sells in my Norinco 1911. I find that they don't hold the round in enough of a "nose up" orientation to keep wadcutter bullets from occasionally hanging up on the feed ramp, but they run flawlessly with any TC or RN bullet I have tried. I would recommend them if you aren't concerned about feeding SWCs.

The Norinco magazines seem to work well with SWCs.

Hey, ..looking ...confirmation ...non-norinco mag...work in a norinco 1911. ....

My cousin down south brought me a couple of Chip McCormick Shooting Star 8 rnd. mags (w/ base) which were on sale from an online retailer last month for US$13.99@ plus shipping (within the US). Brought them to the range and my friends, 3 who have one Norc each (Government and Commander sizes) tried these out. Works with no failuresand fit flush. These mags drop out smoothly upon release and they keep the slide open after the last round. Works very well too with my Kimber.

I shoot mostly 200 grn SWC with no feeding issues. Am sure that one of the CGN sponsoring retailers should carry these at a reasonable price. My favorite still remains the Wilson Combat stainless mags. BTW, haven't tried them myself but those ACT mags are supposedly pretty sturdy with the exception of the plastic base which have a tendency to crack from repeated drops. They are priced very well. Happy shopping!!!
