I've been looking at a Norinco 1911 for a while. While it's not a firearm I "need" in my collection, at the price point, I dont mind having it in my collection
Currently, one of CGN's sponsors has the 1911 available at what I consider a good price for one. My past experience with Norinco products in the past has been very disappointing. My Norinco M93 Woodsman had a malfunction the first day i took it to the range and it has been nearly five months since I've sent it back to the shop. I have not heard back from it at all.

I guess my question boils down to:

To the owners of a Norinco 1911, was the purchase worth it? If you had lose your 1911, would you buy another Norinco or would you spend twice as much and pick up a better one such as a Ruger or Remington 1911?

I have the 1911 police. Works perfectly, the finish on mine is wearing pretty fast. I was planning on selling it, but kept it for the time being.
That being said, I am really temped to jump on the current deal. How often is it that you can get a $200 gun.

what dealer is currently selling for $200.00?

Have the 45 sport bought from CanAm recently; and the np29 9mm bought from Frontier recently.
Love the 45. The np29 is a bit rougher (slide feels like its a bit gritty when cycling).
But both great value. Will get a pricey sig 1911 some day but can't seeing it being able to do much better than these.
The fit and finish is a bit rough but much better than I expected.
The sights aren't the best, the sites on my sig P226 (night sights) are excellent. So think I was a bit spoiled.
Will try fluorescent paint on the sights as the yellow is too dark.
But for the price I would recommend Norinco 1911's for sure.

the blueing wears off fast, some parts like the trigger needs some minor work to reduce trigger pull and a weird griding feeling also trigger reset. but the rest is fine, clean it well and you have no issues

This will be an unpopular post, but here goes.

There will come a time in every gun nut's life when they will want to run a 1911.

Forget ammo costs, and the design's notorious unreliability...every real pistol shooter will feel the desire to shoot the gun that ran from WW1 all the way to Magnum PI.

Most of us will experience this as a passing fancy or even youthful folly...kind of like all those Zubaz pants I had in 1990.

The current generation of shooters has the chance to get this out of thier system at a very low price....and they should.

By all means, buy a Norinco 1911.

If you like all the things that make it quirky...you are a 1911 guy and will buy many more.

If you are not a 1911 guy....well, now you know and it only cost a couple of hundred to find out.

Norinco two tone 1911 hard chrome frame+sti hammer+ sear and a little gunsmith loving.Shoots better than my S+W 1911 and my Sig 1911.A great gun everybody loves to hate.

I've owned a Norinco 1911A1 parkerized for almost 4 years, as well as a few other Norinco pistols. No problem with any of them except the M93 (and how could you not expect problems from a $75 pistol). They're definitely "value" brand and not high end. I think they're worth the low price, and I just jumped on that CanAm deal to prove it.

How on earth did I miss that CanAm deal?!? I JUST ordered another Norinco 1911 from Marstar, damn.

As effinggoof said, the Norinco 1911 is the best way for many (most) people to see if they are in to 1911 pistols. I bought my first one a couple of years ago, and have shot and modded the snot out of it. Fantastic piece for the money.

If you've been waiting five months for customer service, then there is a problem with customer service at that retailer. I had a problem with one of three m93 Woodsman clones, immediately got an RMA# from the retailer, sent it in to North Sylva, and have had very good service from them. They are great little pistols when they are working right. If they are not working right, the retailer should be bending over backwards trying to make it right.

If you want to get into 1911-pattern pistols, but you're not sure if you'll like it, the Norc is the way to go.

Inexpensive, reasonably reliable, and if you DON'T like it, you can usually sell it for what you paid for it.

My Norc hasn't given me any trouble whatsoever, and I've run well over 1000 rnds through it.

Thanks for the input everyone.
I think I'll pick one up.

What would be a reasonable solution to the problem?
Instead of simply ignoring me, every e-mail I've sent them requesting for a status update on my M93 pistol has been answered (with they dont have any updates from Norinco's Canadaian service center).

I've already got a STI Trojan and TargetMaster in 45acp, but couldn't resist the low price. I may turn it into a project gun I can tinker with and also make it my range ##### for when I take out some newbies.

I bought my first one back when they actually sold for $199 and had the barrel, bushing, grip safety, sights, and trigger group all worked over with Brown parts and Novak sights. It is a great shooting tank of a gun. A few years ago I bought an Armco tuned one and just upgraded the sights to better military looking ones (Yost I think). It is pretty good but I'm not real happy with the barrel fit and may upgrade it. The Norinco can be a solid but basic pistol however if you really want to upgrade it, it gets expensive fast and you might be better off looking at a Kimber, sti, etc. unless you can do some work yourself. Just start pricing beavertails, sights, and match barrels and compare the costs.

There are so many rincos around that a patient buyer can often find a nicely reworked pistol for a good price.

I own a Norc 1911 A1C, it came parkerized, came off like primer!! I polished it to mirror fininsh and replaced the internals (it was a used jammamatic!!) and it now shoots as good as a Colt!! Milspec that is. I also own a Gold Cup National Match for comparison. Love my Norc, will buy more!!

Five months is absurd, IMO. I'd make sure to have a telephone (or face to face) conversation with some sort of manager at the original retail shop. If they are not able to resolve the situation in short order, and if it's a site sponsor we're talking about, I would tell him or her that I was going to raise the issue on their sub-forum here on CGN. Then, after giving them reasonable advance notice, I would raise the issue on their sub-forum in a problem-solving manner. As a potential consumer, I'd want to know information like that before buying from a particular retailer. Ask me how I learned that lesson... :)

There may be an honest problem in sourcing replacement parts, which is understandable, but it's THEIR problem, not yours. Regardless, you deserve to know what's going on with it, and if nothing is going on with it...

I bought one a few years ago and was really impressed with it. Maybe more so because of all the norinco hate that was/is going around. One mag doesn't always drop completely free is the only issue I've had. I've shot all kinds of ammo without any issue. I really wish I shot it more but the closest range is an hour from home. I really like the 1911. And if I bought another I'd probably upgrade, but I think this one will stay in my safe for a long time yet. It's not fancy or shiney or custom but it shoots straight, feels good and is easy to clean. I think it's a keeper.

What he said...... Really got mine to see....dammmmmm if it doesn't shoot straight., did 3" groups at 10 yards last weekend, almost as good as my k100. Kind of grown on me, and now I want to try the np-34 sig clone.... Really great value, and the blueline on mine is truly fab.... Get one and enjoy....
