Norinco 1911 - Polish the feed ramp? Or no?

I have a question:

I have been handling the Norinco 1911 sport a lot since I got it.
I have taken it down, cleaned it, cycled the actions, removed and seated the mags.

I recently fed the Norinco 1911 some hollow point ammo (aware that it might not like it). It failed to feed. One magazine in particular was a fail to feed every round.

When I attempted ball ammo - the Norinco failed to feed multiple times (and even compacted one round).

There is brass scuffing on the ramp.

Should I be polishing this ramp?

Keep in mind I am using the cheap Norinco mags.

*note* the entire mag fail to feed was done with a "sling shot" rack of the slide.

When I used the slide release, it chambered 80 percent more rounds - but there were still the occasional fail to feed.

Suggestions?

I own a Norinco Sport as well. Three fixes I can recommend:

1. Use Blue Magic Brand metal polish and a rag on the feed ramp for a light polish/cleaning.

2. Buy good magazines.

3. Change the oversized slide stop for a standard GI style one.

I did all three on mine when I got it and it hasn't jammed.

Enjoy, they're good pistols.

check your mags and see if the cartidge is seating correctly with the nose pointed up. if the round sits flat you should get new mags. if the round sits fine check that there is nothing catching it when it is in the magwell.

Sounds like your Norinco has biogger problems than a simple polishing of the feedramp will solve. That fact that it wont even feed ball ammo suggests some major issues.

Start at the magazines, get some decent mags, the norinco ones are crap. This is the most common cause of feeding issues. The next is ammo,I assume you were using factory ammo?

Other things to check are extractor tension, magazine release(is it holding the mags high enough?),chamber face(check for any burrs)etc. If nothing obvious appears and after using decent mags and ammo, its time for the gunsmith!

Yes to factory ammo.

I bought it from Marstar -so I won't be going to a gunsmith with a brand new firearm that's not feeding.

I will try mags first -

Anyone know where to find Wilson Combat mags for under 60 bucks Canadian?
The Canadian supplier has none in stock and they are going for 60 bucks.

If it is a brand new gun that you bought from Marstar, then you are in luck as Marstar fully warranties all of the Norinco guns they sell! Just contact Marstar; they will take care of you.

Go to the best.
Gunnar at armco. Click the ad link at the top of this page- he'll fix you up!

X2 While I had some issues with FTF and FTE on home loads, once I used round nose instead of SWC and the proper amount (5.4) of W231 on the 1911 Norc I got from Gunnar, everything seems tickety boo now.

I used to have a Norinco 1911 that would feed everything except for semi-wadcutter. I polished the feed ramp myself with a very fine emery paper and it worked out great. Fed semi-wadcutters no problem at all.
