Hey all,

I bought a norinco 1911 in December I finally got it out to the range earlier this month and was having problems with it.
Occasionally the slide doesn't fully return to battery after firing. The slide gets hung up 1/16" back and it's very hard to clear the round from the gun. I had to grab the slide and drive my hand into the frame to eject the unfired rounds.
It's impossible to force the slide forward to its proper posotion when it happens.

The primer strikes all appeared normal (no light strikes).
I was using Fiocchi ammo.
I used both a norinco and a dlask magazine and had the issue with both.

Has anyone else had this happen to their 1911?
What was the fix?

Thanks!

Take barrel off the gun and drop in your ammo and see if it drops in the camber all the way, I bet you will find some does not.
try different ammo, if it is all new , polish the chamber.

did you clean the #### out of it when you first got it? those norinco's are coated in a thick coat of grease/cosmoline when you get them. you have to degrease them before you shoot,

so its ejecting the spent round and not pushing the next round into the chamber completely? are you using a 7 or 8 round magazine?
and does it strip the round off the mag, but not completely close or does the round get hung up on the feed ramp?

Did you clean the gun too well? I've seen this happen when a 1911 gets bone-dry. I'd suggest another cleaning and lubing before getting too in depth....

It was cleaned and lubed.
The round was stripped from the mag but would not fully close in the chamber.
The slide would sit back 1/8" from the closed position and not fire.

the slide only binds with ammo, or is it catching on its own without?

My Norc Tok had a spur on the back of the firing pin housing that was biding on the inside of the frame. Ground it off, problem solved. Don't know if this would apply to your 1911, but might be worth a look.

Hey
I had a problem with both my tok tt33 and my new P796 (sig clone), both shoot 7.62x25 and I had half a crate of the surplus ammo that was coated and found both guns hated it. once warmed up the full mag first or second shot round would go down range and the casing would get stuck in the barrel with the extractor holding tight on the back of it not allowing the frame to fully complete its cycle. Both my guns would be stuck half way open jammed. The tok wasn't too bad as it did eject casing but I had to tap rear of slide to return to battery , the P796 however I needed to use my sks cleaning rod to ram down the barrel to release the casing once it cooled...tried copper washed ammo and poof both run amazing now.
My thoughts ...try different ammo and see how it runs..
best of luck
Glenn

before getting to stressed i'd try it with remington and/or winchester and see if that makes a difference. I'd definitely replace the recoil and mainspring since as much as i think norc's are a great value and building platform, the springs are frankly crap.

Look for marks on the brass that jam, eject one and look and see where it's dragging. that might tell you where to start. Be very careful if you start polishing the feed ramp and chamber mouth, it's really really easy to take to much metal of and scrap the barrel, or at least make one that bulges your brass

It could be an extractor problem. Too much tension on the extractor or a burr on the claw will prevent the extractor from sliding around the case rim and will prevent the slide from going into battery.

It will shoot one or two then jam.
It happened with a box of fiocchi ammo.
I was able to fire the whole box.
(i.e. I cleared the firearm then put the ammo back in the mag and tried again and got it to fire.)
I'll try my box of blazer ammo and see if its better

here r a few reasons for that happening

bullet not seated in far enough
bullet not sized right
crimp is not right

it most likely not the gun try different ammo .

Try a couple different bullet profiles in it. Sounds like something is hanging up while the slide is closing. Bullet shape, magazine angle, feed ramp or chamber. Start with the easy (cheap) fix and some different 200 grain FMJ round nose - it's what it was designed for.

I would try measuring the ammo and se if there is some larger than others, try different ammo, cast some lead when I first started reloading, 1 out of 20 would not fully enter chamber, turned out some bullets were a little larger in diameter than others and would cause it to jamb, now I size lead and issue went away
