Norinco 1911, should I bother?

There is nothing wrong with todays MIM parts........
Norinco pistol mags are pretty poor quality. I wouldn't buy a nork pistol that only took nork mags.......

Marstar has Nork Mags for $35 expensive in my opinion for a nork. Any other more affordable and better quality options for my NP28 & M1911A1c? Thanx

Nothing for the NP28, lots of aftermarket for the 1911A1 gov. and commander. Wilson are probably the best.

Thanx What a big selection of Mags??? but these guys are in the US with no dealers listed in Canada. Do you know of anyone that carries their products up here? or they have no prob shipping up here?

Brownells are a great source for mags from the States. Stay away from Ebay and Reddogg he is a crock and sells cheap Chinese knock offs as Colt mags. I hav had grea luck with McCormick 8rd Power mags.

Stay Safe

I've shot 2 Norc's
Get one from Armco , he prep's the trigger , don't know what else he does but his was like a completely different gun .
Well worth the money for what it is , but ...
You will probably spend the difference in add on parts ( grips / sights , etc..) .
With some prep work a good solid gun .

Thanks for the advice. I do not know enough about 1911's to work on triggers etc. so after reading your message, I called Armco, and ordered one of his 'worked on' Norinco 1911's. He will examine it, check on all the parts that the manufacturer should have spent more time on, change the grips, and adjust the trigger.

Total price: $478.00 plus GST plus shipping of about $20.

Thanks again! :D

Now if only the NP29's would arrive from Kommie Land. I'll jump on the first one that Johnone lands. LOL

I spoke with Marstar last week and apparently the shipment is already in Canada but he expected it may be three weeks before they get cleared by customs.

I am waiting on a NP29 as well.

The Old Man has one. Nice gun. Probably as good as any milspec 1911. It's no Ed Brown or WIlson, but then again, at $350 what do you want?

My brother's waiting for them to get some more in as well. I think Dark has some at present...

Mine came on Wends, a nice Norc 1911 tuned up by Nor1.

Took her out the range today and fed 200 rounds of 230 gr Rem though it. Not a single problem, gun went bang every time.

Not a single regret in buying it.

Picked up mine yesterday. I gave it a good look over before buying but was pleasantly surprised at the shape of the internal parts onece I got it stripped. I am still waiting on my ATT to take it to the range but I spent most of tonight pollishing all the moving parts to smooth up the action a little bit. I can't wait to see how it shoots.

Norinco 1911's... yeah, worth the 'bother'...

There's nothing wrong with a Norinco 1911. Had a compact version for a short time awhile back. Great little shooter...:D

Welll, here's a list of what I put into a $449 Norinco, either the 5", Compact, or the 9mm NP29:

Lap frame to slide, smooth up breech face and underside of slide, prep and tune extractor, polish inside of slide where top of barrel rubs, add a polymer shockbuffer, check and adjust thumb and grip safeties as needed, rework hammer, sear and disconnector surfaces and set trigger pull to 3.5 to 4 lbs (crisp). Function test BOTH magazines with factory 230 grain ammo as well as 200 grain lead semiwadcutter reloads, test fire with both types of ammo as well. Lately we have not had to polish and throat the frame and barrel for feeding as they come in pretty good shape that way, but we always check, and improve feeding if needed. We check little stuff like making sure the grips fit snugly, and that plunger housings are staked correctly. The gun you receive is worlds smoother, easier to shoot, and more dependable than an out of the box Norinco (which we will not sell). We put our own one year warranty on these guns. If it breaks within a year, WE fix it promptly and for free.

We have an option for an extra $30 of switching to Pachmayr grips, or mahogany diamond checkered grips (very pretty). We can fit a match alloy trigger for an extra $30 as well, and mag wells, different safeties, full length guide rods, even a "Bear Load" package consisting of extra heavy recoil spring and barrel adjusted for maximum lock-up.

We are busy, but so far keeping up with demand, and it's usually about a week and a half from time of order until receipt of your tuned Norinco :)

Any news on when the NP29 pistol will be available? Also could a .45 compact be purchased and a second gov't length (5") top end also be fitted as I would like to try the .45-08 Armco round?

I have worked on two of the newer norinco 1911's, giving them full alterations with all stainless controlls and pins, adding dlask adjustable triggers, Mc cormick match sear/disconnectors and full wollf spring kits and olympic arms match s.s. barrels and national match bushings. The function and feel just as nice as my high end Charles Daly custom at a fraction of the cost.
i would say out of the box, get a trigger job and maybe sear disconnector swap as well as a quality spring upgrade. I've done all my alterations my self and i am not a gunsmith.... I do however have an extremely intimate knowledge of the 1911. get the norinco, I think you'll be pleased.

I am planning to get the Norc Commander through Armco as soon as I have saved up enough money (I hunting for a Sig 226 right now)

An Armco Norc :)

Stock Norinco, except: smooth, accurate and reliable, crisp trigger, Armco sights, ambi safety, nice grips, magwell. Testing and sighting in tomorrow, shipping to its new owner monday. Also testing, for shipping next week are 4 other Norcs, 2 Glocks, 3 Paras, 1 Beretta, one Custom .38Super, one Springfield, and two revolvers...

A pig of a job, but I guess someone has to do it :) I'm glad I have friends to help me with all the test firing!

BTW, in answer to one question - yes, you can fit a spare 5" top end to a Commander, but there needs to be a spacer made up to close the gap at the front of the dustcover. Doable, but here's my suggestion: Get a 5" barrel, I thread it and fit a 2 or 3 port short comp to it. With that slipped into your Commander slide, you'd have a 5" "bear gun" with a lot better control than regular Government top end. Ask me how I know this :) Now the bad news is I'm out of the Compact Norcs until spring sometime...
