Norinco 1911 Slide Not Locking Back

I've got a problem with my 1911, it frequently does not lock back on the last round. What's kind of weird is one of the magazines it came with always locks the slide back and every other magazine I've tried, doesn't lock back including the other magazine it came with.

I just replaced the slide release with one from Wilson combat and it worked for about 4 - 5 mags with a shooting star 8 rounder, but then the problem returned. So now I'm stumped as far as what to try next. I've heard that weak springs sometimes cause problems, but I've tried about 5 different magazines and none of them work.

hello.. marstar:confused: a friend has this problem also.
 
Slot the rear face of the slide stop with a cut off wheel on the Dremel so the detent rides in it. Grind off the protruding surface of the slide stop that engages the magazine follower. Learn to count. Any stopage, dump the mag and rack the slide.

A 1911 that locks back on the last round is also likely do do it on the second last round, or another time you don't want.

Actually, the issue can happen with any 1911 or any other semi-auto pistol that is designed for the slide to lock back on an empty magazine.

How many rds down the pipe with your gun? One of my friend had the same problem with is 1911 Norc in the first 150 rds. At first we tried a couple different make of mag but the problem was still there. After 100 rds the problem was there 1/2 of the time and gone after 150...
 
Is it just me or does anyone else find it down right f*cked to have to modify, chop, hack, grind etc a new gun to make it run right? I'm sure no one here who has bought a new vehicle was as casual about having work done on it right after getting it home.

Buy a quality gun and most of your problems will disappear. As Stevo said, you could also be riding the slide lock.

I got some new name brand mags a while back and they didn't hold the slide open till I put a Norinco follower in....no problem after that.
Some followers are just to sloppy and they shift around and don't engage properly.
 
are you shooting reloads or factory ammos? I had the same problem on my AR because I used less powder, after putting a little bit more powder in, the problem was gone. I'm not sure if 1911's are similar.

I have a Para that I had to re-work after it came back from a warranty repair. I carried a file and a piece of 600 paper to tweak the gun so it would work. It was a complete foul-up right from Para.
Buy a quality gun? ... I thought I did. For the record, it works ok now but I was ready to sell it for whatever I could get.

Even a Glock can have a bad mag follower causing the slide not to lock back when the mag is empty.... ;)
