Just recently got one of the two tone models from Marstar and so far pretty impressed. The only complaint is the magazine. Kinda tight to insert.

It is likely the mag release, not the mag.

Does it drop free easily when the button is depressed?

I found on a couple that have past through my hands that the mag releases are machined out of spec, or poorly.

Taking the slide off and looking down into the mag well from the top will reveal any issues. Mine needed to be cleaned up quite a bit to allow mags to drop free and insert without any resistance.

I had one about a year ago, fit and fishing is decent considering the price but compared to a $1000 gun it's not quite the same.

Yes, it drops fine when released. No feeding issues though. Was using PMC ammo and all fed perfectly. Great pistol for the price.

Were you able to replicate the issue with other mags?

I'd look for rough machining on the magazine body, mag channel inside of frame, inside of trigger bow, and mag catch. Or possibly the trigger bow is slightly collapsed (mine was, but it's an easy fix).

Don't have any other mags yet. Will pick up a few and see how they perform. It also took quite a bit of effort to load the mag.

Ditch the Norinco magazines. They don't work so hot anyways.

I have 9 Norkie 1911 magazines and they all work 100% of the time.

I have 8 McCormick mags. They occasionally FTF.

This is probably correct.

Try removing the mag release from the frame, smooth that part of the mag release, that the top radiused part of the magazine contacts when inserting the mag. Disassemble, clean, lube and reassemble. Then try slamming the mag in using the palm of your off hand.

Oh ya? Odd.
I have the opposite with mine. One of the Nork mags works not too bad, the other one doesn't drop free and gives me issues with the follower from time to time.
My CMC mags work flawlessly.

Meh. Probably a gun to gun thing (my trigger bow was slightly collapsed, putting unnecessary friction on mags). Probably lots of variation in mags due to rough machining. I'd offer to buy your Norc mags off of you if I were into 7 rounders, but I'm not. CMC for me, and they are also 100% in my pistol.
