You will notice that the sport model has an extended mag release screwed over top of the regular small one. All you have to do is unscrew that big old ugly extended max release and I bet your drop free issues will be solved.

No idea, but it worked on mine. I assume the screw may have been too long or the base was to wide to allow the mag release to enter the frame full depth.

The mag releases fine, it is just tight inserting.

I have the excact same model and I use thes magazines. http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/details/1708/SAM-1911-45-ACP-8-Round-Magazine.aspx They fit great and I have never had a problem with one of them.
