I called Gunnar at Armco on the weekend but he's way too busy and won't accept Norc 1911 tune ups till April.
He's got a good reputation and the price seems to be fair but I want to get the gun done much sooner (nothing fancy, just the basic smoothing, trigger, feeding tuned, etc.).
Are there any other gunsmith options out there in the same price range?

He's the man.

But here's how you get your tune-up..... Watch the Armco site for used/excellent Norc 1911A1 to come up for sale. And they come up for sale on the site all the time. Gunnar gives 'em all a tune when they go thru his place. Buy that one & sell your other one. Voila, you get an Armco tuned Norc 1911A1 and you don't have to wait until April.... ;) :D

Can't do that. Mine is a Norconia 1911A1 SS model from Marstar (made for the German market) and Gunnar doesn't sell those.

Don't worry.... by the volume of stuff that goes thru the used page on the Armco site it won't take long for someone to trade one of those up, down or across for something else they can't live without. ;)

you don't have to look to far...
there is an excellent pistolsmith right here in Ontario,
Roger Kotenko
try to google "DARK international"...
excellent work, reasonable pricing and you don't have to wait until April....

Or, you can ask Santa for a dremel tool and look up the many "how-to's" available on the net.

I did my Norc 1911 "Commander" model. It's got about 3.5# pull now. However, if you are not a handy-man type, don't touch it or you will end up with a $300 paper weight... I found 1911's very easy to work on.
