NORINCO 1911

We're not allowed to concealed carry in Canada. But the Bobbed frame 1911 has an appeal all its own. What does the collective wisdom think about lopping off the corner of the butt?

I've been fence sitting about that for 15 or more years, and I've opted not to until I shoot a bobbed one. I bought the Commander to bob, but before I got around to doing it, I found that an arched mainspring housing really helped with my large hands and control of the .45 acp. I'd estimate a 20%-25% improvement in control just having a handle that fits. Lopping off that corner could really ruin an otherwise nice shooter, and like you say, the only real reason to do it is for conceal carry at the 3-5PM iwb, and we can't legally do that, so.

If I shot one, and found the grip still sufficient, and no ill effect on my ability to control the already kinda flippy Commander, I'd bob mine in a heartbeat, but I suspect taking the heel off the grip is going to be a problem for practical shooting.

They sure look nice though, don't they? (Dan Wesson "V"-Bob Commander).

Flippy is a good way to describe the tall frame and short slide behaviour under recoil.

I had an NP29 and traded it for an NP28 and regretted it ever since. I don’t like the extra wide grip.
I had a NP58 (same Sig clone but in .40 S & W, ran perfect, but on only one particular ammo, otherwise feeding issues all the time. Nicest finish of any nork I had, but sold it and bought a Jericho in .40, it would eat anything.

Between my 2 tone NZ85 and my satin chrome 1911, I can not choose a favorite, they are so different, yet both punch way above their price class. Good pistols!!!

10mm mags are just 40S&W that don't have the internel spacer like the 40. simple conversion 10mm chamber reamer and you are good to go. Didn't go to 10 because i have a ton of 40 brass and a lot less recoil.
One reason I had a .40 S&W barrel fitted to my Colt Delta, back in the day.

Lots of free once fired factory .40 S&W left littering the local ranges after the LEO's do their qualifications.(y)

NAA.

Are there any easy to install, higher visibilty sights that I could install myself on my NP29?

Preferably tritium.
No. Not really. The front sight blade is staked and sweated into the slide. The proper fix is to get the slide cut for a dovetail. Jigs, specialty tools, experience in doing the job...none of which I possess. Most don't. It's a smith job by my estimation, and totally worth it.

Ended up with an np28 in beautiful shape and an np29 that looks like it was used as hammer and then put in a bag of hammers and swung against a barn, I’d have 10 more nork 1911s if I could plus all the other nork pistols I could get my hands on

Bought two NP29s. One I use primarily with a Colt .22 conversion unit. Shoots really well.
The other I blasted and parked.
These pistols were diamonds in the rough.
