I've been fence sitting about that for 15 or more years, and I've opted not to until I shoot a bobbed one. I bought the Commander to bob, but before I got around to doing it, I found that an arched mainspring housing really helped with my large hands and control of the .45 acp. I'd estimate a 20%-25% improvement in control just having a handle that fits. Lopping off that corner could really ruin an otherwise nice shooter, and like you say, the only real reason to do it is for conceal carry at the 3-5PM iwb, and we can't legally do that, so.We're not allowed to concealed carry in Canada. But the Bobbed frame 1911 has an appeal all its own. What does the collective wisdom think about lopping off the corner of the butt?

I did a Norc over in 40S&W with STI ramped barrel and a Colt Government slide it is a sweet heart and shoots extremely well. Not a 10 but close.Had two, wish they made one in 10mm.
Flippy is a good way to describe the tall frame and short slide behaviour under recoil.I've been fence sitting about that for 15 or more years, and I've opted not to until I shoot a bobbed one. If I shot one, and found the grip still sufficient, and no ill effect on my ability to control the already kinda flippy Commander, I'd bob mine in a heartbeat, but I suspect taking the heel off the grip is going to be a problem for practical shooting.
They sure look nice though, don't they? (Dan Wesson "V"-Bob Commander).
I had a NP58 (same Sig clone but in .40 S & W, ran perfect, but on only one particular ammo, otherwise feeding issues all the time. Nicest finish of any nork I had, but sold it and bought a Jericho in .40, it would eat anything.I had an NP29 and traded it for an NP28 and regretted it ever since. I don’t like the extra wide grip.
Would 10mm not be too long for the mags?I did a Norc over in 40S&W with STI ramped barrel and a Colt Government slide it is a sweet heart and shoots extremely well. Not a 10 but close.
10mm mags are just 40S&W that don't have the internel spacer like the 40. simple conversion 10mm chamber reamer and you are good to go. Didn't go to 10 because i have a ton of 40 brass and a lot less recoil.Would 10mm not be too long for the mags?
One reason I had a .40 S&W barrel fitted to my Colt Delta, back in the day.10mm mags are just 40S&W that don't have the internel spacer like the 40. simple conversion 10mm chamber reamer and you are good to go. Didn't go to 10 because i have a ton of 40 brass and a lot less recoil.
No. Not really. The front sight blade is staked and sweated into the slide. The proper fix is to get the slide cut for a dovetail. Jigs, specialty tools, experience in doing the job...none of which I possess. Most don't. It's a smith job by my estimation, and totally worth it.Are there any easy to install, higher visibilty sights that I could install myself on my NP29?
Preferably tritium.
