Norinco 1911A1 Sights ?

Has anyone here installed aftermarket front sights on their norinco's? if so..pics? feedback ?

I recently picked up a police 1911a1 ( see avatar ) and want to replace the front sight with a red fiber optic one ( Similar to the one on the CZ SP01 shadow / Julie Goloski M&P )

anyone have any suggestions on where to get one?

Is that a dove tail or a staked front sight?
I changed the staked front sight on my Norinco 1911 and the difference in height required me to replace the rear sight to match the front. I got the front sight from Hi-Viz in the states. Price was about $30 for FO.

Dovetail if im not mistaken

I'm on the Hi-Viz website, which model did you pick ( norinco wasn't listed.. does it matter? )
 
Just talked to Gunnar to see if he has any sights in stock for my 1911 and his reply was

Nothing that fits the Norc - they use an oddball dovetail cut...

My Norinco was the standard GI style with a narrow tenon staked front sight, just like the original Colt 1911A1.
 
Casey at Tac Ord installed a set of Heine Slant Pro's on mine. Had to cut dovetails in mine. Arwen Ace is his handle here on CGN. His work is top notch, and his customer service is second to none.

I'd think It's a pretty straightforward job to get the dovetail recut to fit a more "standard" and available size, Gunnar can do this for cheap, about 60 bucks if I remember.......

Or if your handy with a file get a slightly oversized dovetail site and fit it to your slide yourself.....;)

He quoted me $100 installed, still a good price since Ill be shipping him the gun for the armco tune anyway.

Or if your handy with a file get a slightly oversized dovetail site and fit it to your slide yourself.....;)

I'm definitely handy and could do this job myself, I just don't know what oversized dovetail to buy and where ?? As I mentioned, I'm shipping him the gun for the tune so perhaps I should let him do it ? I wouldn't want to screw up something on a relatively new gun.

Anyone here tried doing this themselves?

With the cost of the front site included...certainly a bargain considering the alternative of having a pistol with a cockeyed front site ;)

I'd say get er done by a pro :)
 
What these other gentlemen have not said is the metal in Norinco pistols is very hard, save yourself grief and have a pro do the installation. I can heartily recommend King sights and the King-Tappen in particular.
