So I've found that my commander length hard chrome norinco 1911 is letting the follower in the magazines pass the slide stop and jam up without locking the slide to the rear. I can still extract the magazines but it takes a hard tug. It is possible that the temperature (-10ish) had something to do with it but the lube I threw on it seems to be a graphite sorta grease that seems to remain nice and slick.
Has anyone replaced the slide stop with another with any success? I talked to a shop that makes some 1911 parts on the west coast and got the old Norincos are incompatible metric messes speech. I understand that to be true in some cases but not necessarily as a hard and fast rule.
Now the magazines I'm using are two that came with it (that were the most reliable for locking the slide after I broke the edges and took the burrs off) and two GI mags I picked up at the last gun show I went to. Those always seemed to have a slide lock issue with snap caps, but were initially somewhat reliable at the range.
I've also always noticed that it's a bugger to get the slide lock back in when reassembling as I usually have to use the tip of a screwdriver or knife to depress the plunger.
So have any of you had success replacing the slide stop or other components that might help clean up the trigger pull?
