Norinco 305 as a hunting tool

Invested a fair buck into my Norinco 305 and would like to use it to hunt bear, dear and moose. Anyone have any comments on the 150 grain 308 round for hunting this type of game?
 
You might want to use a heavier bullet for the moose unless it is a premium like a Barnes X or similar.

Other than that, go for it. The .308 should kill any thing on your list.:)
 
I use Winchester 168gr ballistic silver tips.....kills most critters dead!!!

Alright out to 200 yards? I'd give a .308 a bit more credit than that if he's capable of shooting it past those ranges!

Anything but for really big bear (since your in B.C.!!) .308 should be fine. Personally everyone in my family (3 norc m-305's and a springfield armory m1a) load 180gr. soft points for moose here in NFLD. There are lots of threads in the other sections expressing concerns of hurting the gas system in a 305 by using any bullet weights over 167 gr. You might want to read a few of these and weigh the pro's and con's before considering some of the heavier bullets.

As for a 150 gr. bullet, just choose a good quality bullet and don't worry. Shoot withen ranges that your comfortable with and have practiced and you shouldn't have any problems. If I was you and going after bigger bears I might consider moving up calibers, or at least bullet weights, just for piece of mind!

My moose last season was taken with a 180gr. winchester soft point at a 287meters, no problems.

Hornady makes their SST bullet an Interlock SST. 150-165 should do the trick. I'm waiting for some results on the Scirocco ones. Remington loads it IIRC.

The Hornaday 150 grain spire point does just fine, thank you.
A moose can not tell the diference in bullet brand when the bullet goes through the heart / lung area where the moose lives. About the only bullets that are questionable are hard cast and they sometimes act like FMJ unless they hit a bone.
 
For larger game I would try the new Winchester XP3 150gr. The two stage expansion is said to work great at close and long range with an excellent bullet weight retention. Coming soon to a gun store near you :D

Kinda heavy for a sporting rifle, esp with a scope.

I'd use 165s or larger for anything bigger than deer.

165gr bullets should be fine for anything you want to shoot. Moose really are not hard to kill if you can put a bullet in the right place. I have friends that have taken several moose at 500+ yards with a .308. Whatever you have, just practice with it and it will kill anything you want to hunt. My uncle curses on me for using anything larger then a .243 for moose...
