So I just snagged a Ruger scout of the EE. What are peoples thoughts about using Norinco ammo in it for range use?

Thanks

Should be OK for banging gongs etc.
The GSR(mine anyway) likes 170gr and up.
The best I could do with PMC 147gr fmj was about 2" at 100yds using a Hi-Lux 2-7 LER scope.
With 180gr SP handloads I have got fairly consistent groups of just over 1".(some smaller)
I really like my GSR,hope you will like yours as well.

Yeah, I figured I wont get maximum accuracy with it, but I thought this rifle would be a good compromise between a hunting rifle and one that I could start using up some Nork ammo with at the range.

I've wanted one of these for years, so after I started downsizing my collection, I had to pick one up. I love the peep sights on it, but I also have a bushnell holosight I can mount on the rail, and a bushnell fixed 10x tactical to mount with the rings.

You could. Not going to give you the best results.

I own a ruger scout aswell. The main downside is pricey mags

Actually Norinco .308 groups better than Federal AE 150gr and some other similar prices western brand ammo i have tried im my R700 .. Only small downside i can see to running that ammo is the mild steel jacket on the bullet, a steady diet of it for years on end could maybe wear your barrel a bit quicker than a pure copper jacket bullet would ..

Yeah, that is my main concern at this point. How many rounds would it take to start noticing a reduction in accuracy from the steel jacket ammo?

There was test done with ar15's and steel cased ammo appeared to get about half the barrel life but the cost savings more than made up for replacing the barrels earlier. May not be the case depending on the cost to rebarrel your particular rifle. The norinco stuff is copper washed steel is it not? If your worried bout it buy a case of Hirtenberger .308 reloadable brass from marstars for .76 cents a round. Tough to even reload em cheaper than that especially if you factor in time.

I hate the idea of wearing out a barrel in a nice rifle like this, but I have the better part of a norinco can of 308 left to use up. But atleast rebarreling is a potential option. And for the amount I shoot, it will take decades for that to become an issue. I'd probably start reloading after I use up all this Nork.

Do U mean norinco 7.62 X 51 ammo? Or is ur norinco ammo labeled 308 win? The ruger Scout is nice!
I have a savage scout 11 and I have questioned if using norinco 7.62 X 51 in my rifle is safe as well.
