Norinco 308

Would this ammo be preferable for plinking out of a semi auto?

I'm considering a new .308 bolt gun, not sure if it would be worth buying this bulk ammo if the accuracy will be wasted.

Haven’t tried the norc .308 but none of my .308 bolt guns like 7.62 nato m80 ball, I use it to get on paper when sighting in and that’s it. I’ve been using PPU so at least I get decent brass out of it and it’s fairly inexpensive.

I used scads out of an M1 rifle in .308 some years back and it was fine. Shot comparably to anything else ball issue. Since I've used it in a Norinco 305 and it functioned and shot fine. But then, that was what it was made for.

Norc is 7.62 not .308. A friend was trying to sight his rifle in with some and could not get it zeroed. We switched ammo and the groups tightened up considerably. Norinco ammo is Ok for plinking but its certainly not precision ammo that you woulkd want to use in a bolt rifle

It's never been as accurate in my guns as "good" stuff. So what? If I have a 1MOA rifle that shoots 2.5MOA with Norinco, I can practice with it and as long as I get my 2.5MOA I'm golden. Sometimes I don't even need to adjust my sights because POI doesn't change significantly, just group size.

Saying that "it's okay for plinking" isn't a negative...it's a plus!

I was getting, at best, 1.5 - 4” groups from this ammo at 100 yards. I found it grouped inconsistently, which is common for surplus. This was out of a Mossberg MVP patrol. Not a target rifle by any means.

Overall, it met my expectations for surplus ammo.

I used to shoot this out of an M305 before the ban. The Norinco ammo cycled well in that rifle. But I never measured the groupings, as it was a plinker.

Consistent 2" groups at 100m off bench with my Zastava LK M70. FMJ bullet replaced with SP groups tighter.
