Yeah? I bet the Norc is a better quality then the POS Olympic Arms. Ive got a buddy who is probably gonna buy the CQ.. its alot of gun for the money. Sides if you were really concerned about adding rails and other goods...I doubt a budget rifle would even factor into it.

For a range gun I dont see how the Norc is lacking.

I wouldn't doubt it, and I could see a NORC M14 in my future. Of course, one could start with the Norc and buy a better upper assembly later and get the full meal deal. But why buy a Pontiac Sunfire and pimp it? Save up for another few months and buy a good base platform you can live with and trust your life with under all conditions.

Having owned both a 311 (Just sold/shipped to another CGNer) and an American made AR (RRA) I still have nothing bad to say about the 311.
I was able to best many a Colt shooter with my 311... Hell, there were a couple times where Colts broke down and I had to lend out my 311 so guys could finish a match....

One compelling reason for me to buy American was political...
The 311 isn't approved for import, even temporarily to the US.
If it were legal to take across the border I'd still have it.

These guns are fine guns and work great. My position was that I just would be very reluctant to buy one without the features considered essential by modern armies for use under adverse conditions. I said they were good for casual shooting. I just would not rely on such a weapon if and when the chips were down.

311

Here's mine... I don't know if I can in good conscience still call it a Norinco :p

Well...you mean to tell me combat troops don't know how to obsessively clean their rifles? Have you seen Full Metal Jacket?

No offense, but I'll just thumb that bolt assist, drive the action home, and keep shooting. Of course few other rifles use this technology. They are different rifles with different technology. The bolt assist exists and is part of all M16 rifle training drill becuase it works. Find any training pamphlet from north or south of the 49th and the instructions will be there in big black letters. Best regards.

Uh...back a few posts you mention the AR15 as an assault rifle. While this is true, the rifle was also developed as a sporting rifle for target shooters and in fact the AR15 is in fact accurate and various heavy barrel varmint versions exist as well.

As for the use of the M16 in combat in Vietnam: Originally when the rifle was first adopted, the troops did not have a regiment of cleaning their M16s...they didn't even have cleaning kits early on and were told the rifle was self-cleaning. Later years found not only cleaning kits but improvements made to the rifle such as the Forward-Assist.

So in any case, you are saying your FIRST action when your rifle doesn't go bang in the midst of firing at the enemy is to thumb the forward assist?

It's nice that you can use an AR 15 for many things. But it is an assault rifle. It was invented by Eugene Stoner, derived from his Armalite assault rifle. At no point was it "developed" as a varmiter. This being said, there are varminter variants. You can cut both rope and steak with a steak knife. It's still a steak knife.

Troops who don't obsessively clean their rifles are taking their lives into their own hands and breaking orders. They can go to jail for this. No one is perfect, but rest assured they're more switched on than the average civvy when it comes to cleaning, and they are smart enough to see and know when a weapon is fouling. Do you really think soldiers are dumb enough to imagine all that caked carbon, sand and oil is "self cleaning"? Especially after they have had months of drill instructors going over every part of the weapon with white gloves, and dental picks in traning? My God man, these are professionals who live and die by their rifles. If some dentist came along and told you your mouth was self cleaning, do you think you'd stop brushing? Or would you have the common sense to see the spinach in your teeth and floss it out?

A trained troop's first action when a weapon stops is usually determined by visual inspection. Once a troop knows what has stopped his weapon, he will execute the appropriate IA drill. Almost all of these drills involve using the forward assist at some point, except for stoppages due to mag change.

Banging on the forward assist can deform the brass causing a worse jam. I've seen it.

That's why you don't bang on it. You execute a proper IA drill where you press on it at the right time. I'll photocopy the section in the warrior program pam and send it to you if you'd like, for your own safe shooting.

PS: Does your phaser have stun setting?

Oh boy, here we go again  ;)

FWIW, the closest my CQ, and for that matter - all civi ARs in Kanada, will ever come to combat is my friends fighting over who gets to shoot it next at the range (they don't own ARs)
And if SHTF and zombies come a-callin, I've got better rifles to choose from anyway:dancingbanana:

-Metric threading. Really only an issue for the barrel nut, as a collapseable carbine stock can be made to fit (why you'd want one on a 20" barrel is beyond me, but I digress...)

How can I make a carbine stock fit my CQ?

I have one and love it and for the amount of shooting I do I would regret having anything else. If I had a $2000 colt in my safe and only shot it a few times a year I could think of better ways to spend the cash and it would be sold but a $600 Norinco I will probabaly have forever.

zorak dude:

Unless you are the chief instructor for the JTF, I would highly recommend that you end the "what I learned in the army" lectures.

Theres lots of members here who have gone through the army and know quite a bit more than you will ever know.

Enter the forum as a new user with an open ear and you will learn quite alot about many different wpns platforms. Spout off like some chairborne wannabe adminclerk commando and be written off as some assfisting loutmouth troll.

Your opinions on the 311 have been heard by the members and probably ignored. There are enough people who have written positive reviews given cost vs product that those that want one but cant afford some 1k+ rifle will get this.

Why dont you offer opinions on the norc m14? How crappy is it compared to the US copies??

LFOD <-doesnt own an ar/311

Hey Zorak... try and be open minded..theres lots of good features about the CQ311 that make it a great entry level gun for the cheapos or those who want an AR type without having to pay much.

I am hoping to have my AR finally built when the lower arrives..then Im gonna post pics.

I dont get this whole forward assist thing.. #### if it doesnt work... put it back in the range bag and go home.. Whats the problem?

Okay... completely off topic, but this really frosts my a**:p

Noone "builds" their friggin' AR.
You buy an assortment of parts and you assemble yourself a rifle... far from "building"

Now... get yourself a raw block of whatever and fabricate everything and I'll agree... You "built" an AR.

Oh... and Zorak, don't let these guys bug ya... I know what it's like to be so high speed low drag that noone understands you
;)

eh how do you know I havent been chipping away with a dremel for 3 years and slowly filing and polishing it up?

Well I figure I built it being as I paid for it..and have bought it piece by piece over a period of time...

But I gotta ask why do you really give a #### whether its hand built or bought in components?

As for frosting your ass? Maybe you need a better seat on your toilet huh???
