Norinco .45acp + hard primers?

Hi All,

I've recently been experiencing some light primer strikes with my HK45 using this ammo. I never had a failure of any sort with this gun until last week. Probably around 30 light strikes/100 in S/A but probably half went bang when trying again in D/A. At first I thought it might be the frog lube gumming up the internals, so after 2 thorough cleanings with hoppes and CLP I tried again last night. I was still getting maybe 1 or 2 per mag. I brought along a box of Winchester .45ACP Value Pack and didn't have any issues with this ammo. My HK has maybe 6-800 rounds through it so it should be "broken in" and probably half of those were norinco .45 with no failures previously.

Bad batch? or is Norinco known for having hard primers? issue with my gun?

Any insight is much appreciated.
 
Norinco typically does use harder primers, but a pistol in good working order shouldn't have a problem with them. Did you clean out your firing pin channel? I'd go over the whole firing mechanism to make sure there's nothing slowing it down.

Thanks for the advice, I'm a little weary of performing a full detail strip to get to the firing pin as I've read that doing so voids the HK warranty. I think I'll try spraying some CLP or solvent in there and drying it out with some compressed air and repeating a few times. Hopefully a little TLC is all it needs.

It might be brass shavings or something similar in the firing pin channel, in which case flushing it without might not get you anywhere.
 
You're better off learning how to completely strip all of your firearms {teach a man how to fish}. And I own a Ruger Mk1, probably the worst thing to try to put back together.

I did the same thing with my Glock OP, frog lube in the firing pin channelf:P:2: , in order to get all the lube {or excessive lube} out, you have to strip it down really. An aerosol solvent would probably do the trick as well, but that kind of approach equates to treating your pistol like punching someone you love in the face:eek:...IMHO
 
Do you try to fire them a second time? Do they go bang?
I'd imagine it's more likely the ammo than the gun.
You're running cheap gas in a Ferrari there.
 
Yes, about half of them fired (15 or so) after trying again from full D/A pull. I had 0 issues with some winchester bulk so I'm hoping that it's an ammo related issue. I have returned to the range after trying to flush the firing pin channel but still experienced roughly 5 light strikes/50 from the same batch of Norinco ammo. I'm gonna grow a set and perform a full detail strip and clean out the channel. Just hope i don't damage the roll pins, as I cant seem to find replacements anywhere. numrich doesn't seem to have the ones i need and hkparts doesn't seem to ship to north of the border.

For you HK owners, where do you get your replacement parts from (I have tried Wolverine and Epps).

Well, I cleaned out my firing pin channel and i think that might be the cause for all the light strikes. It was filthy and was all gummed up. It seems that i was over applying my froglube and getting it in areas that it shouldn't be. Huge difference in terms of the smoothness of the firing pin motion after cleaning. Planning to take it to the range this week. Crossing fingers.

Thanks guys for suggesting a detail strip. Gonna do my Sig next, can't wait to see what's in there...

Just wanted to give an update. Finally made it to the range last night after performing a detail strip and a thorough cleaning of the firing pin channel. Went through 200 rounds of Norinco (same batch that was previously giving me issues) without a single hiccup!
