Can we get reports on the quality of this ammo? I intend to shoot it in my AR and was hoping on something relatively clean that wont jam the gas tube to quickly.

Haw about accuracy with a 1/9 20" AR?

Not expecting miracles but the Norinco 7.62x51 "surplus" did surprisingly well in my M1a.

Cheers!

Curious on the velocities people are getting. I like 2900ish out of my 18 to keep kinda close to the Elcan.

I got some, ran a bit in my DPMS 16". It's kinda dirty sounds hot. I don't have a crony but it had more snap behind it then other misc .223 and 5.56 I shot that day.

the ends aren't crimped that great if by somehow they jam up and you forward assist the bolt the bullet goes in the case. they are quite dirty but very reliable. i was going to reload but meh there rather cheep i just like to shoot em.

I've used 3200 rounds through my ACR without any failures.
Very "snappy " more kick than brand name ammo, & I've found it to be reasonably accurate.
No more dirty than my reloads using win231. Powder.

I find it a bit hot as well. It ran fine in my DDM4 with 16" barrel 1:7. not jams, and they all landed where I wanted to out to about 200m. I didn't notice it being very dirty.. mine was the CJ93 stuff.

2900?!? Most issued ammo are in the 3100 ranges and up. And Elcan is calibrated at around 3100fps.

MIL Spec Data for M193 and M855 Ammunition

The following information is excerpted from the MIL-C specs that lay out the qualification tests for M193 and M855 military ball ammunition. The most recent revision (as of Sept 2007) of each spec was referenced.

MIL-C-9963F
CARTRIDGE, 5.56MM, BALL M193

3.6 Velocity. The average velocity of the sample cartridges, conditioned at 70 + 2 Fahrenheit (F), shall be 3165 feet per second (ft/sec) plus or minus 40 ft/sec, at 78 feet from the muzzle of the weapon. The standard deviation of the velocities shall not exceed 40 ft/sec,

3.7 Chamber pressure.

3.7.1 Measurement by copper-crush cylinder. The average chamber pressure
o€ the sample cartridges, conditioned at 70 +/- 2F, shall not exceed 52,000 pounds per square inch (PSI). The average chamber pressure plus three standard deviations of chamber pressure shall not exceed 58,000 PSI.

3.7.2 Measurement by piezoelectric transducer. The average chamber pressure of the sample cartridges, conditioned at 70 + 2F, shall not exceed 55,000 PSI. The average chamber pressure plus three standard deviations of chamber pressure shall not exceed 61,000 PSI.

3.8 Port pressure.

3.8.1 Measurement by copper crush cylinder. The average port pressure of the sample cartridges, conditioned at 70 +/- 2F, shall be 15,000 PSI +/- 2000 PSI.

3.8.2 Measurement by piezoelectric transducer. The average port pressure of the sample cartridges, conditioned at 70 +/- 2F shall be shall be 14,400 PSI +/- 2000 PSI.

3.9 Temperature stability. When the sample cartridges are subjected to the following storage conditions, the average velocity shall not decrease by more than 250 ft/sec and the average chamber pressure by either method used in 3.7 shall not increase by more than 5000 PSI, the average port pressure by either method used in 3.8 shall neither increase nor decrease by more than 2000 PSI with respect to the average velocity, chamber pressure and port pressure of the sample cartridges of the same lot, conditioned at 70 +/- 2 F for a minimum of twenty minutes. Any increases in velocity and decreases in chamber pressure of the sample cartridges under these temperature conditions are acceptable,

Stored at 125 +/- 2F for not less than one hour and fired at that temperature.
Stored at -65 +/- 5F for not less than one hour and fired at that temperature.

Norinco is about 40fps more hot then MILSpec ball ammo. Look for 3150+ fps...

they seem hot to me as well. snappy and crisp. I have yet to have one failure of any kind with this ammo. then again, I have had the same with the rifle period, but this ammo has been as good as anything else I have shot thru it. WW-15, 16.5" AR-15

I forget if it was an 800 or 1600 pack, but I had a few failures. 3 or so rounds out of about 60, wouldnt chamber because they were warped. I personally wouldnt buy it again if there is something else close to the same price.

W231 powder in a .223?

For the price, I like the Norinco ammo quite a lot. On average, I'm finding it shoots a bit better than the South African ball ammo that I had stocked up on previously -- my LMT 16" upper with a 1/8" twist has no problem keeping 5 shots of this stuff inside 2 MOA. As others have noted, however, there appears to be no real crimp on it of any consequence -- and I've now learned to pay attention when the odd failure to feed occurs for any reason, just in case the bullet has been driven back into the case, which I have seen once so far. If I see it again, I may be inclined to run some of this stuff through a crimping die and see if that takes care of the issue. All in all, though, for the price it really can't be beat, particularly in light of the cases being boxer primed and quite reloadable.

good ammo. i have about 900 rounds through a 14.5" AR, 600 through a 20" AR and 1600 in a tavor. maybe 2 that would not go bang with multiple primer strikes.

DO NOT USE IN A BOLT GUN!
