Norinco 870 clones - are they all the same?

One last note about 14" barrels:

Getting accessories to fit can be very challenging at times. Flashlight forends extend past the muzzle, magazine extensions also. Sometimes there is no room for a bayonet lug, etc.

Something to consider. 18.5" is only a hand's width longer than the 14". Still short, but accessories fit much better (especially barrel accessories)

I have a Wilson 1 shot mag extension and a Surefire forend, neither of these stick out past the barrel on my HP9 14inch barrelled Norinco. One issue that I did find was the the diameter of the forend tube was to big. I removed this Norinco part and put a real 870 tube on it so the the Surefire would fit perfectly. I also have an 870P extractor and some Wilson ghost rings. Oh I got rid of the Norinco stock as well :p

My HP9-1 has been great. Super reliable. Modded with the following 870 parts which all fit without any alterations: Wilson +1 extension, Trac Loc G/R sights and magazine follower, Surefire forend and a Spec-Ops stock.

The HP9-1 is the one to buy if you want a 14" barrel. They're a great deal.

Why buy a copycat when you can buy a 870 for $300+, and what use is a 12 or 14" barrel. Sound like a useless POS to me.

Because the express wont take any of the 870P accessories...they dont fit.

I think most Norincos out of the box are junk and unreliable- ok that might sound abit harsh, there are exceptions. However if you wish to use them as a building platform they are a great investment. The problem with the 870 copies is the quality is inconsistent, you could get a good one or a bad one.

Then again people say the same thing about the lower end Remington Express series now as well.

Gee, and I was gonna ask if you were going to use the 14 inch barrel as a pole vault. You look at shotguns differently when you own an 8.5 incher :yingyang:

And seriously Dude, we've finally found a way for everyone to be happy, we get to play mall ninja, have ridiculous, useless shotguns, that wouldn't kill a goose if we shot it while it was sleeping :)rolleyes:).

We need for a little window to pop up, when people first click to enter this black and green shotgun section. It'll have an 8.5 inch griz, with a Spec-ops Knoxx stock, and a flashlight/laser mounted on the rail. The question will be, Is this? A) useless or B) awesome. Anyone who clicks A, just gets directed to the sporting section (they'll never know thedifference, and be so much happier), and B folk get to come in. Soon as I get the Knoxx Bolt through a 1/4x28 die, I'll have just exactly the right picture ;)

Hp-9

After lurking in these forums for the 6 month's it's taken me to receive my PAL...
I've decided to order a brand new Norinco HP-9 14".

For $250 bucks it seems like you can't go wrong. If you don't like it, I bet you can re-sell it pretty quickly.

There seems to be a lot less talk about the longer barreled version, but then again just because people don't talk about something doesn't mean it's bad...

Anyone? I'm curious as well.

I bought a Norc HP-9 14'' about 5 years ago, while I didn't shoot it much initially, I have come to appreciate it's good balance, smooth action, and punishing recoil! This little shotty for the investment of $425 (yes, that's what P&D was charging at the time when anything short barrelled was at a premium) has proven itself to function flawlessly. I just added a sidesaddle for 4 more rounds on hand, and plan to add a +1 magazine extender. A ghost ring sighting system and a Knoxx pistol grip stock should round it out nicely. This is what I take with me in my 5th wheel when the wife and I go camping.

I love my HP9-1 14". I am putting it over my shoulder in a few minutes to take the dogs for a walk. It has become a constant companion lately as the bears are coming down a lot now looking for berries and fruit. Just got a 21" vent rib barrel for it and had screw in chokes done to both it and the 14". Patterns real good with #4 buck 2-3/4" @50yds as a couple of coyotes have found out.

Where did you order a new HP9-1 14" for $250.00??????

After starting this thread (and with the assistance of some great feedback - thanks everyone) I picked up an HP9. While the blueing isn't the greatest, I have to admit everything else about this little shotgun is great. The 14" barrel is a great length, points well and is a 'blast' to shoot.....and it's already provided a very memorable and fun outing. A couple of weeks ago I took the HP9 and my O/U to the range. I was going to shoot a round of skeet with the O/U and put some slugs through the Norinco. We decide to shoot the skeet first....step onto pad one....click. The O/U broke the firing pin on the lower barrel. So, went to the trunk, and brought out the 14" HP9. I must admit it got some strange looks and a few comments like "that'll be a nice shotgun one day when it grows up". Anyways, I shot the round with the norinco....first time I ever shot skeet with a pump....and the da*m thing shot a 16. Now I know that's not great, but a 16 from a pump with a 14" barrel....I've never laughed so much shooting skeet. When I was done, a number of members asked to try it. It cycled perfectly and worked flawlessly. I absolutely love this little shotgun.

I have a Norinco HP9 18.5" that I purchased from SFRC for $250 (Site Sponsor) and I love it... only 50 down the pipe so far but no complaints... If I wasn't at the office I would be playing with it right now :)

Where did you order a new fore-end tube from?
