Norinco Ammo Choices

I'm new to the sport and will be purchasing my first handgun in the next couple of weeks. I'm leaning towards the Norinco Commander in .45 ACP and I wanted to know if there was a particular brand of ammo that works well or a brand that does not work well.

Mine has eaten any commercial FMJ ammo that I have fed it.

I don't know about lead though, never tried it.
