Just wondering what the story is with these firearms. I see they are cheap chinese knockoffs, at least for the most part it seems. Are they any good? Are they reliable shooters? I'm just getting into handgunning and one of these might be a cheap way to aquire something of a bigger caliber then the .22 I plan to buy. I'm hoping to find a S&W model 41 to be my first handgun, but if I cant find a used one I may get a new sig mosquito.

You said the key word cheap. Poor quality they are cheap for a reason it must be me because I don't get why people buy chinese optics ,and guns and then flood the forms with all of the problems they have with them it is getting old.
The norinco's are awsome for there price. I had 2 1911's and they were awsome. The steel they use to make the guns is stronger then most gun makers use (i.e. colt, para etc). They do need a bit of love to remove minor sharp corners. If you are looking for a 1911 per say, Armco sells some already tuned and tlc'd.
I just bought a Norinco SIG P228 clone and am impressed with the fit and finish. It looks very nice, with the only concern being the cheap feeling grips. Haven't been to the range yet, but soon. Feels like a real P-228, (Ihave one), and I am a bit of a SIG expert. Look down.

Ellwood Epps has one SW 41 used in VG condition for only $650.
Norks are good guns and I've used them in 9mm and 45 calibers for more then 9 yrs with no complains (so far, so good)
I'd go for a Nork 1911 any time again (my choice will be the hard chromed frame version)

They aren't cheap brother, it is just other guns over priced. If you don't have enough green for a Sig or HK, then they are a very good choice. I am super happy with my NP-29 and will buy another Norinco soon. By the way there are so many high end gun are also knock off.

okay, alot of norinco bashing going on but dont believe a word of it....anyone worth their word online or in real life will tell you that the norinco 1911's are a great gun, especially for the price. Honestly, alot of the Kimbers etc "higher end" factor 1911's out there are junk. The norinco is a forged frame and slide and is a workhorse. Mine functions flawlessly and anyone else with them will say the same. only issue is with mags but that is easily solved. A top 1911 gunsmith in the states by the name of king put out a list of 1911's he would work on. Norinco's were on that list, kimbers were not. and this was years ago. the norc's have only gotten better.
I was weary of norinco's too but after doing alot of online research and handling one, i put my money down and am very impressed it is accurate and will be more reliable (with new mags) than alot of overpriced 1911's. Really dont know where the naysayers are getting their information.

The S&W 41 is a superb gun. But you'll pass by a host of other great .22's if you lock yourself into that one option only. If THAT is the one and only that you want then fine. But if you're just after A nice .22 then there's a bunch of others that I'd rank in between the 41 at the top of the heap and the Mosquito down somewhere in the lower middle.
As for the Norincos keep in mind that Norc is a MARKETING company that fronts the products from a number of Chinese makers that we'll never know the names of. Their 1911's are very decent other than the dehorning that they need to remove the razor like edges. On the other hand the $99 Tokarevs that were sold through Canada Ammo some time back look like they were made with hand tools from beginning to end. The shoot just fine but the quality of the finish is as bad as the most avid Norc demeaning poster would have you believe. I've also seen a couple of the Norc CZ series and again they are very nicely finished on the outside and have minimal tooling marks on the inside. So the Norc quality is a bit all over the map.

If you don't want to buy a Chinese gun, by all means don't. By spreading crappy, uninformed personal opinion devoid of any actual experience with a product based on your own personal paranoia, you're really not helping a new shooter with a valid question. Stay in your lane, what you know about Norcs would fit on the head of a pin.OP - as far as handguns go, the Norcs are not the fit and finish equal of the guns they are copies of, most of the time they function about 98% of the "real thing". In your position I'd look at the GSG 1911 in 22 and an Armco tuned Norc, or STI Spartan. Both guns (GSG+other) operate in exactly the same way, would use the same holsters, and mag pouches. I personally would go with the Spartan in 9mm - the extra money you spend on a Spartan would be saved very quickly by the reduced cost of 9mm, versus 45.
PS Bill Wilson would work on Norcs (when he did custom stuff) he wouldn't touch a Kimber either.
I'm not going to knock Norinco because I've never owned one, but I do know a few people that have owned them. Some good experiences, some very bad, but then again, you get what you pay for as the saying goes.
I would take a norinco over Hipoint if I were to choose by cosmetics, but hipoint over norinco because it's american made

My M-93 is extremely accurate, I can shoot decent 100 yard groups with it!!! I have also put every type of ammo known to man through it, and I have not had single malfunction with it!!(It is a knockoff of a Colt Woodsman I believe)
Norinco 1911's.....
I've been into 1911's for ~ 30 years. In that time, I've also had a few Norinco 1911's. I've yet to have a lemon amongst any I've owned. Personally, I like 'em. And I'd take a Norc 1911 over a Para any day of the week, too.

I'm stoked on mine, M1911A1 Sport model in .45acp. I was apprehensive at first but after doing research online I was convinced otherwise. Forged steel frame and slide speaks for itself. Now I wouldn't think twice about it.
As for the moral implications of buying a Chinese weapon, well that is up to you. I decided it couldn't be that different than all the other stuff I purchase which is Chinese at WalMart.

You get what you pay for.
Many people get one that functions perfect and they have no issues with it...others get one and have issues right away or shortly down the line. They are a decent gun for the price but there quality control just isn't all there yet based on my experience and the general views of CGNer's....that being said, I would still buy another one if it suited my needs and cash was an issue.
