Trying to help a friend out. He wants to swap out the dust cover on his Norinco AR but the barrel nut won't break loose. Anyone else had a similar problem or solution? He does have the upper receiver bench block, barrel wrench and was using a vise but it still won't come loose. Wondering if they lock tited the damn thing?? I suggested heating it up with a hair dryer but that's all I could think of.

Thanks.

Just wait till your buddy decides he wants to change the gas block/front sight...

Then you will have to tell him to put down the purse & break out the dremel to CUT IT OFF!!!

That's right, the pins in the gas block/front sight, are in there SO TIGHT, most choose to cut rather than mangle the entire gas block!

Cheers
Jay

Just cut the non-standard rod that holds the Norc dustcover on, slide in the proper one and affix the C clip. No need to remove the barrel nut that was carefully applied using an impact gun.

Even with the upper receiver block you are running a serious risk of twisting the receiver if you put that much torque on it. The receiver is only aluminum. Is it really so important to swap out a minor part that just want to risk destroying the receiver?

My suggestion is leave the thing alone.

How but this but in reverse. Remove the circlip slide the rod out, no ?

I mentioned to him about cutting the old cover off putting the new one on from the other side. I think he's gonna give that a try instead of risking damage to the receiver. The only reason he wants to change it is for aesthetics, found a zombie one or something....
